"I HAVE NEVER HAD TO HAVE SOMEONE CLEAN MY HOME BEFORE, AND WAS QUIT ASHAMED TO HAVE ANYONE SEE ALL THE TERRIBLE CLUTTER, AND I ADMIT IT WAS VERY BAD BECAUSE I AM ELDERLY, AND I SUFFER FROM DEGENERITIVE DISK DISEASE AND GET STAY IN LEVEL 10 PAIN THAT NOTHING WORKS VERY WELL FOR, AND I HAVE TO STAY IN BED %80 OF THE TIME, AND GET UP JUST LONG ENOUGH TO EAT SOMETHING THATS FAST AND EASY, SO I KEPT GETTING HOUSE DIRTY AND COULDNT GET WELL ENOUGH TO CLEAN IT AND IT WAS DRIVING ME CRAZY! I FELT VERY UNCOMFORTABLE HAVING A STRANGER COME IN AS IT WAS, BUT REALLY HATED WHAT THEY MIGHT THINK OF HOW BAD THINGS WERE, BUT I FINALLY GOT BRAVE ENOUGH TO PUSH MYSELF INTO CHECKING OUT HOME ADVISOR, AND WAS VERY PLEASED WHEN DELFI ANSWERED THE PHONE AND LISTENED INTENTLY, NEVER ONCE MAKING ME FEEL JUDGED AT ALL. I WAS WORRIED I COULDNT PAY ENOUGH FOR IM ON A FIXED INCOME, BUT I TOLD HER THE AMMOUNT I COULD PAY, AND SHE SAID THATS FINE, I UNDERSTAND YOUR SITUATION COMPLETELY AND WILL BE GLAD TO HELP. DONT WORRY I CAN HANDLE IT JUST FINE! GOT JUST THE IME I WANTED, AND I WAS SO SUPRISED WHEN SHE AND HER 17 YR OLD PRECIOUS DAUGHTER WERE STANDING THERE, SHE INTRODUCED HERSELF AND KIM HER DAUGHTER THAT HELPS HER, AND I WAS SO NERVOUS WARNING THEM OF WHAT THEY WERE WALKING INTO, AND SHE SAID NO WORRIES, WE WILL TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING U WANT DONE! I TOLD HER IT WAS MUCH EASIER FOR ME TO EXPLAIN THE PLAN OF ATTACK, BECAUSE IT WAS SUCH A DISASTER! SO ANYWAY, I BEGAN RATTLING THINGS OFF, AND THEY BOTH LISTENED INTENTLY, AND MY WORD, I DONT KNOW HOW THEY COULD REMEMBER EVERYTHING I WAS DRILLING OUT LIKE AN ARMY SARGENT PREPARING FOR BATTLE. SOME THINGS I COULD EASILY HANDLE MYSELF, SO I TOLD THEM DO THIS, DONT DO THAT OVER AND OVER, AND HOW THEY GOT ALL THAT POOR THINGS, I WILL NEVER KNOW, BUT THEY DID THANK GOD, HE ALWAYS SENDS ME THE BEST HE HAS OF ANYTHING, SO I THANK HIM FOR DELFIE AND KIM!!! I WAS SO SUPRISED, BECAUSE THEY MADE ME FEEL SO VERY COMFORTABLE AND RELAXED, AND WERE SO EASY TO TALK TO, THAT IT SEEMED I HAD FAMILY HERE! THEY DID A PERFECT JOB, SO I DECIDED I COULD CUT CORNERS A BIT AND PAID THEM QUITE A LOT EXTRA! THE REALLY NEAT THING IS, I TOLD THEM I WAS GOING TO GO NEXT DOOR TO TAKE MONEY AT ATM, AND KIM SAW I WAS GOING WITH A WALKER AND CARRYING MY SMALL BATTERY OXYGEN, AND JUMPED IN REALLY QUICK SAYING, I CAN GO WITH U IF U WANT, I SAID WOW! OK! THATS GREAT BEAUSE, ITS HARD TO GET THIS THING DOWN THE STEPS, AND HARD FOR ME TO OPEN THE DOOR AT THE STORE, AND SHE EVEN CARRIED MY MACHINE! I THOUGHT THEY DIDNT MAKE TEENS LIKTHAT ANYMORE! LOL! ANYWAY I WILL CALL THEM AGAIN! YOU GOTTA TRY THEM GUYS, THEY ARE GREAT! THANK YOU HOME ADVISOR, YOU SAVED MY SINKING SHIP!! GOD BLESS!"

Drapery Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The recommended frequency for professionally cleaning drapes varies. As a general guideline, aim for every four to five years. However, you should consider more frequent cleanings in specific circumstances. For homes with pets, heavy soiling, or residents with severe allergies, cleaning every two to three years—or even two to four times per year—is beneficial. Light-colored drapes may need cleaning every one to two years to maintain their appearance. Some also follow a biannual schedule, cleaning in the spring to remove winter dust and in the fall to remove summer pollen. In between professional services, lightly vacuum your drapes with a special attachment to remove surface debris, but avoid abrasive brushes on delicate fabrics like silk and linen.

You probably have mold on your shower curtains because mold and mildew thrive and spread in warm, dark, wet, and unventilated spaces. Your shower is the perfect environment, especially the shower curtains, because they trap water in the folds and creases, plus they’re exposed to the most water spray. The best way to ensure mold stays off your shower curtains is to keep it dry so it doesn’t have a place to grow. Doing this can also help keep mold off your bathroom ceiling.

You should avoid using a pressure washer on any surface or item that could be damaged by the high-pressure spray, as some materials are too delicate to withstand the force.

Key items and surfaces to avoid include:

  • Electrical Components: Never pressure wash electrical systems, as water can cause short-circuits and create a safety hazard. This includes utility meters, breaker boxes, electrical outlets, generators, and HVAC or air conditioner units.

  • Delicate and Fragile Materials: Fragile items can crack, shatter, or be stripped by the pressure. Avoid pressure washing windows, glass, light fixtures, shingled roofs (especially asphalt), and stucco.

  • Painted, Stained, or Sealed Surfaces: Unless your goal is to strip the finish, do not pressure wash painted surfaces, stained wood (like decks), or anything with a protective seal that could be stripped away. Be especially cautious with older surfaces that may contain lead paint.

  • Soft Woods and Certain Decking: Delicate surfaces like softwood, composite decking, and antique or wooden patio furniture can be etched or damaged. If you must wash wood, use a lower-powered pressure washer with a wide-angle nozzle to prevent damage.

  • Living Things: Never use a pressure washer on people, pets, or plants. The force can cause serious injury and will destroy landscaping.

Anything that might have been exposed to fumigation chemicals should be washed before use. Wipe down and sanitize surfaces like countertops and tables, and wash all utensils (or take care to store them in an airtight box beforehand), as well as anything else that could find its way into someone’s mouth, like kid or pet toys.

You can usually hire a drape cleaning service, a general cleaning service, or, in some cases, a professional dry cleaner to clean your drapes. These professionals will have the experience necessary to deep clean your drapes and curtains without damaging the material. A drape and curtain cleaning specialist is your best bet, as they will have the right experience, tools, and professional cleaning solutions at their disposal for the best results possible.
