We have established a excellent relationship with other licensed trades such as Electricians Plummer’s, HVAC, concrete finishers and foundation specialists. Coordination with other trades and vendors was handled well. And this was all during COVID supply chain challenges. We had delays from vendors. But stoner construction was able to adjust accordingly. In the end the job was completed within our budget. The quality of work is excellent. We are very satisfied and would use stoner construction again for sure."

Clapboard siding is traditionally made of wood, and is one of the most common types of wood siding in North America. When people talk about wood siding, they are usually talking about clapboard siding. However, not all wood siding is in the clapboard style: It can be tongue-and-groove, shake, and other designs. Also, clapboard siding can sometimes be made of different materials, like vinyl or fiber cement, so the terms are not interchangeable.

Traditionally, you place a layer of ⅜-inch foam board beneath aluminum siding. This gives you a smooth surface to which you can fasten the trim and siding. Beneath the foam board, you should have some kind of waterproof sheathing to further protect your home from water damage. It’s possible this sheathing is already under your current siding.

Mildew grows into porous wood, making it more difficult to remove than regular dirt (and more destructive). We suggest using a dedicated mildew and mold fungicide to remove mildew, which is found in any local home improvement store. Apply a dose of the fungicide to the siding and leave to work according to the instructions, usually for an hour or two. Then wash it thoroughly away and scrub the spot again. Repeat the process if necessary. If nothing is removing the mildew stains, you should plan on removing those clapboard planks in time, as their damage could cause future problems.

Vinyl siding lasts between 20 and 40 years, on average, but the timeline depends on the quality of the product you install, whether or not your siding professional installs the siding properly with room for expansion, the climate in your area, and more. With good maintenance on a high-quality siding in a moderate climate, you could get 50 years or more of life out of your vinyl siding.
