"This was the 3rd time I’ve used Axium (specifically Tim Krapfl) for home inspection. Tim is very thorough, knowledgeable, and professional! I highly recommend. Tim did the home inspection, but the services also included sewer scope and radon testing."

"Shannon was amazing! He walked us through the whole process of testing and possible remediation. He was very friendly when he came to test (our dog loved him!). He didn’t do any unnecessary testing to help with price and explained his rationale for doing everything. We ended up needing remediation and he recommended a contractor and they communicated frequently throughout the job to coordinate follow up testing. Being unfamiliar with this type of work, dealing with mold, and expecting a baby in January, it could have been a very stressful process but I haven’t felt anxious or worried at all. Shannon has definitely taken care of us and I recommend to anyone!"

"If you are debating on whether or not itâ s worth getting your house or investment tested, it is! And these are are the guys to do it. Teton worked on my schedule; went above and beyond to access places they thought mold could be, and spent the time to explain the results. Thanks again Teton"

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

“Testing” can start with your senses: Assessing your water’s appearance, taste, and smell can all be good first steps. The best way to know for sure what’s going on with your water is to use a well water testing kit, which can tell you about the specific levels of bacteria, dissolved solids, and hardness of your water with precision. Have a pro test your well water at least once per year.

You can sell a house with lead paint, but there are several requirements. If you are aware that lead paint exists anywhere in the home, you must disclose that to potential buyers. Required home inspections will often uncover lead paint, especially for older houses where lead paint may still be a problem. If you have taken steps to encapsulate lead, you should provide buyers with full documentation of the project so it won’t cause any problems later on.

DIY lead testing kits are available, but they often lack the accuracy and reliability of professional services. Professional testing is recommended for more accurate results, as properly certified testers can provide a thorough analysis, clear recommendations, and the necessary legal documentation if remediation is required.

You should ask a few questions to ensure that your potential lead removal professional is experienced and qualified to handle lead-paint abatement safely, legally, and properly.

  • What are your qualifications and experience removing lead-based paint?

  • Are you licensed and certified to remove lead-based paint?

  • How do you test for lead paint?

  • What methods do you use for lead-based paint abatement?

  • What do you plan to do with the hazardous material when you remove it from the home?

  • Do you do replacement and painting work or removal only?

How you test for lead in your water depends on the source of your home's water supply. If you have municipal water, your local water system may offer to test the water for free or may connect you to a lab that will perform the testing.

If you have a private well that provides drinking water, you are responsible for testing it for lead. Look for a lab that is accredited by your state's Department of Environmental Protection to perform the test.
