"My 1st project w/Jimmy was a dream come true! He has now completed 3 bath renovations (porcelain & ceramic), a stacked stone wall, kitchen marble mosaic backsplash, & many handyman projects. He is a gem to work with; excellent in his craft, beyond talented in the tile vocation & also in plumbing, electrical & much more. He found problem areas in my 55-yr-old home & could have just buried them without telling me, but he wants it to be right for the homeowner & goes above & beyond to correct problems in the most correct & cost efficient way. He is a joy to work with; a very positive & upbeat person & a fabulous sense of humor. He has guided me regarding my projects with his discernment, helping me to weigh out options; always keeping cost in mind. I fully trust him alone in my home, & he often arrived early and began work while I was sleeping. I can’t say enough good things about Jimmy; he’s a wonderful person with an incredible gift of construction & he is my go-to-tile guy for life!"

"Martin installed tile flooring in my laundry room. It was a fair price and It looks fantastic. He was quick to give an estimate and get it scheduled. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again. I plan on having him replace tile around my fireplace and any other future tile work I may have."

"Many companies have a minimum they will have to charge for them to come out. This company's minimum happened to be $750 and the repair only cost $450. But they were so willing to work with me that we ended up being able to re-grout the shower as well and that brought the total up to the desired amount and they even gave me a discount so the final amount was only about $730 or so. They did amazing work and did so quickly. They turned my creaky stares into quite clouds of freshness that I get to walk up and down daily. My only complaint is that I wasn't able to give a tip to the actual flooring guy because the ticket was closed after the tile guy came through. They both deserved it and I will be using Wagner Floors for all of my future repairs and re-carpeting."

"We are a repeat customer and have hired them several times to install flooring, bathroom tiles, and backsplash tiles. The quality of work is generally good and we liked everyone we worked with. They have a warranty and are sending people out to fix some issues. One of the only companies we had a good experience with during the remodel - definitely recommend!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

If the hearth ends against a wall, you can use a tile cutter as you normally would. However, if the edge of your hearth ends with no surface pressing against it,you may want to look into rounded tiles. These give a smooth edge to your hearth and make sure cut edges aren’t visible. You can also see if the tile you have has pieces that have been glazed or rounded on one edge. You’d then cut the tile and place it normally, with the cut edge facing inward.

If you hire a professional to lay tile, you can expect to pay $3 to $15 per square foot for labor. For a 100-square-foot tiling project, that would equal $30 to $150 in labor. These costs may increase if you need extra services (such as tile removal, wall repair, or waterproofing). For example, tile removal costs an additional $2 to $7 per square foot.

There are a few different tools you can use to score tiles. Manual tile cutters or tile scribes work well for scoring in straight lines. Tile nippers are one of the best options for scoring because they can make small and irregular cuts that larger tools may not be able to handle.

You can, in theory, tile your fireplace hearth with most tiles. However just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. For example, it’s much better to use unglazed tiles because glazed tiles are more resistant to cracking under extreme heat. Porcelain is more heat-resistant than ceramic, but you can still design the hearth as you like by putting the most heat-resistant tiles directly under the fire and, if it matches your style, add more decorative tiles further from the center of the fire.

Whether you want to match your tile trim with grout comes down to your personal preferences. If you match the two, it can help your tiles to stand out while providing a clean, cohesive look. On the other hand, you might opt to match your tile trim with your tiles. The best option will depend largely on your tile design, as well as how it fits overall with the rest of your room.
