There are several highly durable types of siding that you can build right on top of without removing it, with wood being one of them, provided it's in excellent condition. However, a common reason for siding replacement is to eliminate materials that are in poor condition, making installing new wood siding over old not recommended. Oil-based stains are preferred over latex or water-based varieties because your home's cedar siding must constantly withstand the weather conditions in your location. These stains provide better penetration into the wood to more effectively protect it from UV rays and water infiltration. Oil-based stains are available in transparent, semi-transparent, opaque, or solid-color selections to achieve the look you desire.

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems.
