"Square One Radon is one of the most professional, technically competent companies I've dealt with. Customer service is in the forefront of their business operations. Rob confirmed the high radon gas levels which were established by an independent testing laboratory, devised a plan on how to correct the issue and meet national EPA standards, thereby eliminating the threat they posed. The cost proposal was very detailed, including options, if needed. Work was performed exactly when and as agreed, the crew was very sensitive to keeping our home clean, and was completed when Rob stated it would be done. Communication throughout the project was excellent. As a former Director of Contracting for the Air Force, I can say that Rob is excellent to work with, his proposal was clearly stated, and the results of the work by Rob and his excellent crew resulted in radon levels being reduced from a reading of 800 in the crawl space, 116 inside our home, to a level of 0.2 pico curies per liter post project. You will not be disappointed! Highly recommended!"

"Bought a house and had a Radon Test done. It came back higher than the recommended EPA levels (I trust and believe in the EPA actually). Got a number of estimates and reviewed some companies. I went with SWAT Environmental as they could schedule weekends. I believe his name was Robert, he showed up on time and completed faster than expected. He answered all of my questions and was open and honest about everything. He was respectful of the property interior and exterior. Overall a great experience and I would recommend SWAT if you need Radon Mitigation."

"Square One Radon was professional, knowledgeable, reasonably priced, prompt, and did a beautiful job. The company's owner, Rob is the best. I would recommend his company enthusiastically and without any reservations. I'm a retired consumer-protection lawyer, so I know an outstanding company when I see one."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

The soil beneath your house is most likely what’s causing an increased level of radon. This is because soil holds radioactivity for a long time and it’s also what most buildings are built on. Another common source of radon is water from a source that hasn’t been through periodic radon tests, such as well water. Over time, the radon from the soil can inhabit other parts of your house like the foundation or plumbing.

Many radon fans carry a five-year manufacturer's warranty. That said, your radon fan should last between five and ten years. Regular inspections will ensure the fan is operating properly. Unusual or exceptional noise coming from the fan or indications on your manometer or system monitor can immediately tell you that something is amiss.

No level of radon is technically safe, but since it is naturally present everywhere, it is impossible to avoid entirely. The average radon level in homes across the United States is 1.3 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking action to reduce radon levels if your home's test results are between 2 and 4 pCi/L or higher.

While DIY testing is possible, abatement generally requires professional installation to ensure efficacy and meet safety standards.

A homeowner can install a radon mitigation system on their own. But it’s a challenging DIY that requires a lot of knowledge about radon mitigation as well as familiarity with local regulations. You do not want to risk an improper installation that leaves the system unable to detect radon or gives it a shortened life span. Relying on a professional is the surest way to guarantee a successful installation.
