"When this pro cleaned my windows, I was not expecting the kind of service I received. My windows are the kind that open to the inside to clean, without having to go outside. This pro did it the old fashioned way because there would be drips. He cleaned outside and then cleaned inside separately. He was meticulous and took great pride in his work. All the sills were cleaned and dirt was removed. On the interior rooms that had a mirror, he even cleaned them! Also, my front glass door looked brand new! I am definitely looking forward to using this Company again in the future. It's evident that pride is taken in a job done to perfection!!!"

Sonic Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You should avoid using a pressure washer on any surface or item that could be damaged by the high-pressure spray, as some materials are too delicate to withstand the force.

Key items and surfaces to avoid include:

  • Electrical Components: Never pressure wash electrical systems, as water can cause short-circuits and create a safety hazard. This includes utility meters, breaker boxes, electrical outlets, generators, and HVAC or air conditioner units.

  • Delicate and Fragile Materials: Fragile items can crack, shatter, or be stripped by the pressure. Avoid pressure washing windows, glass, light fixtures, shingled roofs (especially asphalt), and stucco.

  • Painted, Stained, or Sealed Surfaces: Unless your goal is to strip the finish, do not pressure wash painted surfaces, stained wood (like decks), or anything with a protective seal that could be stripped away. Be especially cautious with older surfaces that may contain lead paint.

  • Soft Woods and Certain Decking: Delicate surfaces like softwood, composite decking, and antique or wooden patio furniture can be etched or damaged. If you must wash wood, use a lower-powered pressure washer with a wide-angle nozzle to prevent damage.

  • Living Things: Never use a pressure washer on people, pets, or plants. The force can cause serious injury and will destroy landscaping.

Yes, pros use specialized solutions and pressure settings tailored to surface sensitivity.

Ideally, you will tackle removing algae from your roof during spring or summer when the weather is drier and warmer. Because algae tends to grow during the colder and wetter months, you want to tackle this project before the temperature drops to hopefully keep it from coming back at all.

Vinegar, bleach, chlorine, barley straw, and a bevy of dedicated algaecides can kill algae, which is the easy part. Preventing algae from returning can be a struggle for some homeowners, but keeping the patio well-maintained and clean is a good first step.

Decks, driveways, siding, and patios are common areas that see improved appearance.
