"Mark was on time and as professional as I've seen. I had my front entry doors repaired and he spotted the problem quickly. Fixed it while wasting no time, and knew exactly what he was doing. Customers don't get to see service and quality like this much lately."

"Bradley is very professional and very knowledgeable and on time. He was also able to get started on our house right away when others said it would be weeks. Our breaker box was very old and the wiring in our house was a mess and it needed replaced and repaired. We only had a couple of electrical outlets inside the house and we had no power to the bathroom. We also wanted him to also install new ceiling lights and we wanted him to add new outlets. Bradley replaced the old fuse box with a new fuse box and he added new outlets and replaced the old ceiling lights with new ones. He also got power restored to the bathroom. When he was done everything worked like brand-new and his rates were by far the best that we could find. It was the first time ever using an electrician that we felt like we didn't get ripped off."

"After leaving called him the two door locks wouldn't close. He mentioned 'the French doors weren't square'. We setup an another appointment for November 9th to 'square' the French doors. Two of four doors completed. His communication was terrible. First time never called until outside the front door. The second appointment was a general in the afternoon I'll be there. I called him at 5 pm still not done with prior job. I left text message at 7pm and stated don't bother coming over. I removed some weather stripping to get the locks to work."

Door Repair questions, answered by experts

Very small adjustments can sometimes be made while the door is on its hinges. Be sure to stabilize the door with a doorstop before you begin. Planing the bottom of the door, around the hinges or latch, or planing a large surface should all be done once the door is removed.

The vast majority of hinges are symmetrical, and either side of the hinge can go on the door or the frame. Occasionally, you'll find a hinge specifically made for right or left-handed doors with different attachment hardware or larger plates on one side. In most cases, the large side of the hinge goes on the frame.

It is possible to install hinges backward, so be careful when placing them. Position the hinge so that the hinge pin faces the direction the door will swing. For example, if you're standing on the side the door will open into, the pin should be visible. Be extra careful when installing exterior doors, as placing the hinges on the outside for an outward-facing door makes your home much easier to break into.

Exposure to moisture leads to door jamb rot. Water softens the wood, leaving it susceptible to damage from even slight bumps. Over time, the excess moisture allows mold, mildew, and fungus to grow. These organisms feed on the wood, leaving behind a soft, splintering door jamb. The breakdown will continue if the wood isn’t repaired or replaced. Outdoor wood jambs are the most prone to rotting, but bathrooms and doorways in a humid climate can sustain this damage.

To maintain commercial doors and prolong their lifespan, regularly inspect and tighten hinges, lubricate locks and moving parts, and check weatherstripping for air leaks. For automatic doors, it is also important to clean the sensors to prevent costly repairs.

Yes, you can install a steel door without replacing the frame, depending on the condition of your existing doorframe. If the current frame is in good condition, a steel door that’s the same size as your current door should fit the frame. However, if the frame is damaged, warped, or not properly aligned, it’s better to replace both the door and the frame. This way your steel door will be more secure and offer better insulation.
