"Very professional from start to finish. My Hardi plank siding had cracks and broken pieces missing. I had to replace that side of my house. Home Genuis did an excellent job replacing my siding. They started on time and finished on time and effectively communicated each step. The Project manager AJ was superb."

We got all of this fantastic quality service at an extremely affordable rate, too. His attention to detail and concern for our costs were very appreciated. "This was the best experience! I really didn't want to go to any of the big national companies and the small local ones wouldn't return our calls. From the first moment to the very end, I was impressed with every step. We did have to wait 6 months from order to install, but that had a lot to do with winter months. And I received check in calls from the company to update me along the way. I never felt that I needed to check up on them. Our installers; Dave, Jesus and Dominic were professional, clean and very personable. I enjoyed having them here! Can't say enough about how pleased we are!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

On it own, aluminum siding has a relatively low insulation value (also called R-value); aluminum siding has an R-value of 0.61. However, you can purchase insulated aluminum siding to increase the R-value to between 2 and 5. You can also install additional insulation within your walls to help maintain temperatures within your home. On average, insulation costs $1,825 to install throughout the typical home.

A brick exterior for your home has many advantages over other types of siding. While brick siding and veneer are more expensive, they’re also durable, long-lasting, and weather-resistant. Brick siding is aesthetically appealing, and can help to increase the value of your home. It’s also easy to maintain brick siding.

The recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) for cleaning vinyl siding can vary, so it's best to consult the manufacturer's guidelines. Generally, vinyl siding can handle high pressure, from 2,500 to 3,500 PSI. For comparison, more delicate materials like wood and aluminum siding should not face more than 1,500 PSI. To safely disperse the pressure on vinyl, use a tip with a wider spray span, such as a green (25-degree) or yellow (15-degree) nozzle. For routine cleaning of light dirt, a garden hose with a spray nozzle may be sufficient. Always exercise caution to avoid using excessive pressure that could damage the siding.

Vinyl, brick veneer, stucco, steel, stone veneer, and composite siding are popular alternatives to wood siding. Which siding material is best for your home boils down to your budget, aesthetics, lifestyle, and climate. For example, stone veneer offers a timeless charm and is low maintenance but may have too high of a price tag. Meanwhile, some homeowners love vinyl siding for its low cost, while others dislike it for its appearance and shorter life span.

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.
