"Beware!! They quoted me one price but once they got there and I called their office the lady said it would be more. Then after multiple calls while they kept changing their story they refused to give me my full deposit back until they received a refund for the permit. I will absolutely never use this company. It was the biggest headache ever."

"You can't do better! I am from out of state. When I went looking locksmiths I tried 5 locations that were nothing but a PO box type address. When I finally found Don's keyway, it was a real store but more than that it was a real good one. The general manager, Dave, is the one that actually cut my keys but Nolan gave him a hand. My situation was no keys available for an old camper shell on an old pickup. These guys are amazing. The prices was far better than I expected and I would have gladly paid two or three times that. However this did not happen and I was still CHARGED $150 even though not every part of the agreement was met. Besides being talked down to the whole transaction, and AFTER the whole programming process failed, I was then also told that if I returned in two weeks after returning the key fob I had originally brought in, and FOR AN EXTRA $100, I would receive a Key Fob that was guaranteed to work. This whole time and process was fruitless and the fact that I was charged anything at all to begin with is ridiculous. I would ABSOLUTELY AVOID this place!"

The most secure lock for a front door is typically a deadbolt. There are many types of deadbolts to choose from, the most basic of which is the standard single-cylinder deadbolt. This is the lock you find installed on most front doors. For added security, you could go with a double-cylinder deadbolt, which requires a key to operate the lock from both the outside and the inside. 

The cost to hire a locksmith varies depending on the service you need. Consult your locksmith about the price of your requested services before hiring for your repair or installation. Some of the most common types of locksmith services include:

  • Installing deadbolts: $40–$75

  • Rekeying: $80–$160

  • Unlocking your house: $65–$180

  • Changing locks: $50–$200

  • Installing electronic locks: $50–$500

If part of the key is protruding out of the lock, you can use a pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers to gently turn the key in the lock to open the door. If the key is fully inserted into the lock, you may also be able to use a key extractor to help turn the key into the unlocked position.

Mortise locks are likely the most secure type of deadbolt you can install, but single-cylinders combined with secondary locking mechanisms like vertical locks are also a great option.
