For the most part, peel-and-stick wallpaper doesn't damage walls. However, there may be some cases when damage does occur. For example, if you try to rip the paper off the wall, you may pull away some paint at the same time.

The walls can also be damaged if they aren't prepared properly before you add the wallpaper. For example, if the coat of paint is too fresh when you put the wallpaper on the walls, it can peel away as you remove the paper. 

Wallpaper in bathrooms can last anywhere from one to 10 years, depending on what type was used, how well it was installed, and the measures in place to reduce moisture and humidity levels. Opting for a more durable variety and taking all the necessary protective measures will get you closer to that longer lifespan.

While you technically can put wallpaper in a bathroom, it doesn’t mean you should. If the wallpaper is installed away from direct water contact, like a vanity or accent wall, it will hold up better than if it were directly next to the shower. 

You may end up with extra wallpaper once your project is finished. Hang on to that wallpaper, as you may need to use it to patch up areas that get damaged later on. If you have a lot of excess wallpaper, try getting creative with it. You can use it to line the inside of a cabinet or drawers, for example.

You can put wallpaper in a bathroom, but peel-and-stick wallpaper sometimes doesn’t adhere as well in a humid bathroom as traditional wallpaper with adhesive. If your bathroom has fans that aid in ventilation, you can reduce problems with humidity for peel-and-stick wallpaper. Selecting a vinyl- or polyester-based peel-and-stick wallpaper should give you more durable results than other materials.
