"Mark was exactly what we needed to stop woodpeckers from making a home in the siding of our house. He quickly identified the problem, proposed a solution, and executed that solution. He was quick, profession, and priced his work fairly."

"They gave me an appointment right away when I called about my spider issue and the service provider kept me informed about his arrival time even though I already had a 2 hour window. The provider was great: he explained the spray plan, walked the house with me to see the problem areas, outlined the cost the cost, and finished promptly."

"For pest control this is the service to hire. They provided a thorough assessment of the issues to be resolved (pigeons nesting under solar panels). The scope of work was well described and in this instance involved the removal of nesting a fecal material from under the panels, from the roof gutters and from the downspouts. The material used for exclusion of birds was sturdy, visually acceptable and effective. The contractor was meticulous and the workmanship was of high quality. All interactions were positive and communications were clear."

"Critter control would have been a fine company to work with but when they reviewed the pigeon problems under our solar panels they passed on the job as putting screening around the solar field on our roof was a bit out of their scope of work and suggested we get the solar panel company to "finish the job" which they eventually did with some persistent pressure."

"It was a pleasure working with Patriot Pest Control. They were pleasant, efficient, inexpensive, and thorough-everything you would want out of a company and more. I would definitely recommend them to anyone. My problem was wasp nests. Where I thought I had only one nest on my back patio, they found 4 more besides that, in various places around the patio and the outside of the house. They even thought to look on the roof in the top of the chimney, where they found the most wasps and used a long-lasting dust there. They removed all the wasp nests and sprayed the areas thoroughly. I haven't seen any wasps since and was plagued by them before."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

Cockroaches, ants, flies, bed bugs, and termites are common in business environments.

Trees that provide a habitat to bats and an abundance of bugs—their main food source—will attract bats to your yard. Because the North American landscape has changed so much in recent years, bats have a harder time finding trees with cavities to shelter in. If your yard has a dead or dying tree with a lot of sun exposure, bats will likely be drawn to it because trees with those features are less common.

This depends on if their needs are being met. They'll likely return night after night if they have access to food, water, and adequate shelter. If this changes, they’ll look for another roosting spot. This is why bright lights and other dissuading factors often work when removing bats from a property.

When woodpeckers start banging on your walls or roof, they are probably looking for insects to eat, storing nuts for winter, drilling a hole to make a nest, or communicating with other birds to establish territory or find a mate.

The size of the hole can help determine the reason for the pecking. Small irregular holes are a result of insect hunts. Acorn holes are more consistently sized and often fitted with a nut in the middle. Nest holes are large and have rounded edges. If the bird is pecking to mark its territory or attract a mate, it may leave dents rather than holes, and the noise will stop when the mating season starts in spring.

Keeping birds away from a porch can involve a combination of strategies. Start with cleaning your porch. Remove food, debris, and plants that may be attracting feathered friends. Afterward, install physical deterrents like netting or spikes. Next, top off your porch with a decoy or two—and owl or hawk works. When wondering how to keep birds off the porch, it is always best to use humane efforts that won't harm winged creatures or the environment.
