Jason then spent the next hour helping us locate the source of the noise - turned it it was coming from the dishwasher, which was already off...very strange. In any case, we are able to sleep tonight, and after all the time Jason put into this, he DID NOT CHARGE US ANYTHING!!!! "Mario, the technician, seemed very nice and knowledgeable The $49 quoted trip charge turned into a $220 diagnostic charge not including any service. He wasn’t sure why water was appearing on the floor, but felt it may be due to some clogging of a PVC drain tube. He said it was not possible to simply clean it out, but it should be replaced at a cost of another $250 (for a pipe?). We declined. We subsequently had another repairman come in who said there is no problem cleaning the tube and did so. The material clogging the pipe is shown in the photo."

You’ll need to deep clean yours quarterly, test the pH at least once or twice a week, and add sanitizing chemicals once a week. Most hot tub cracks can be repaired unless they have gone beneath the acrylic. If so, you may need a professional to determine if the crack is repairable or if you should consider hot tub replacement instead.

Most hot tubs use between 1,500 watts and 6,000 watts of electricity, depending on the voltage of your heater. 120-volt heaters tip toward the low end, and 240-volt heaters tip toward the high end. Expect your pump to add another 1,500 watts. Newer, energy-efficient models use less electricity, while older models use more.

It’s less expensive to leave your hot tub on all the time, though you’ll want to keep it at a reduced temperature. How much you use the hot tub is also a factor. You’ll want to keep it at a constant temperature between 80 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit for weekly or daily use, then bump it up right before you get in. If you don’t plan to use your hot tub that often, you can turn it off as long as there’s no risk of freezing.
