"It gives me great pleasure to write this review for Unison Builds LLC. Chris and his team handled the complete interior and exterior renovation of our 7,500 square feet office building. Their work included adding seven new offices, a gorgeous marble kitchen and dining room, a wonderful reception area, an executive conference room with a 14-foot table, the CEO's new office, and nearly everything else. He is a reliable builder. His team takes great pride in what they do. And the work proceeded even faster than we expected."

"Overall the remodel went very well and the finished space is better than we hoped. The staff of High Country Home Improvement, and the plumbing and electrical subs were efficient, skilled, and respectful. From demolition, through framing, drywall, tile, painting and finish carpentry High Country's (Kyle, Cody, Brandon efforts were very good. The project had some unplanned challenges, which were handled promptly and without argument. Even a neighbor commented on the politeness of the workers."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

When planning home building in CO, you must balance upfront investments against long-term climate resilience. Upgrading to impact-resistant roofing or engineered foundation systems requires a larger initial commitment but prevents severe weather and soil damage. You face similar trade-offs regarding project speed versus permit compliance. Bypassing mandatory city inspections saves time initially but creates severe insurance and resale complications. Always sequence your HOA approvals and city permits carefully to avoid delays.

Helpful?

For home building in Aurora, prioritize materials built for the intense climate. Select impact-resistant metal or Class 4 roofing to withstand frequent hail and high UV rays. Use fiber cement siding or properly installed stucco to resist dry conditions and extreme temperature swings. Because of the region's expansive bentonite clay soils, always utilize engineered foundation systems, like pier-and-beam designs, to prevent structural damage. Finally, install high-performance windows to maximize energy efficiency.

Helpful?

Energy efficiency and climate resilience drive popular home building designs throughout Aurora. Homeowners frequently request solar-integrated construction, high-performance insulation, and triple-pane windows to combat extreme temperatures. Covered outdoor living spaces and oversized garages are essential for protecting against intense sun and frequent hail. Inside, open floor plan renovations and finished basements remain top priorities. Additionally, radon mitigation systems and fire-resistant exterior materials are standard features for new construction across CO.

Helpful?

Look for stair-step cracking in exterior brickwork, visible floor slopes, or sticking doors, as these indicate previous home building failed to account for expansive soils. Inspect your roof for granule loss from hail impacts, and check exterior paint for severe peeling caused by intense UV exposure. Inside, undersized basement egress windows or missing radon mitigation systems signal that earlier renovations ignored strict code requirements and require immediate professional correction in Aurora.

Helpful?

Evaluate your property's soil conditions, as expansive bentonite clay requires a geotechnical assessment before any home building begins. Check your local zoning district and HOA covenants to confirm your lot qualifies for additions or accessory dwelling units. If you own an older CO ranch-style property, inspect the electrical panel, as original systems require upgrades to support modern additions. Additionally, verify your utility service capacity before planning new kitchens or bathrooms.
