"My wife and I recently decided to redo our walk-in closet. Because of my engineering background I drew up the plans and searched multiple cabinet shops throughout Orange County only to find that none except for one could provide me with the finished cabinets I hoped to get. Having been a customer of his for as long as he has been in business I should have realized that no one can compare with the craftsmanship that goes into each job that he does. Thank you Jacques, Angel, and the rest of the crew. You did what no others would do and I am truly thankful for that."

Small jobs welcome

"Saeed was great. I had a unique situation in that I wanted to build a custom cabinet and bookshelf into my closet. But had to keep access to the attic access at the back of the cabinet. Saeed was able to come up with a solution that works perfectly. I had several contractors come and give estimates. Saeed gave me a fair price for the work. He was able to complete the project in a reasonable time frame. I will definitely be using him again. Thank you, Saeed."

"AJ arrived exactly on time, went right to work and did a fantastic job hanging cabinets in our laundry room. He was extremely neat, covering our appliances and cleaned everything up before leaving. I would highly recommend AJ Cabinets as you will not be disappointed. We will be contacting him again when we are ready for him to build out a closet."

"Jerry, Jose and the crew are top notch. The quality will blow you away. Forget Reborn and all others as they are sub quality. No laminate stickers, they paint or finish your existing cabinets. The work is ultra high end custom that is unmatched. 12 coats of paint will make the cabinets done last. I also interior doors refinished and painted in their shop giving a factory smooth finish. The prices are ridiculously low for the prime quality you get. Just call them and forget the others. My whole house (3200sqft)cabinet refinishing cost less than Reborn for just the kitchen!"

Closets questions, answered by experts

You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.

Yes, adding a built-in or custom closet generally increases your home's value and makes it more attractive to potential buyers. A well-designed closet adds utility, organization, and a touch of luxury, which are appealing selling points. Most homeowners see a return on investment (ROI) of 50% to 60%; for example, a custom closet can add about $1,000 to your home's value on average. The specific ROI depends on the type, with custom walk-in closets typically providing more value than reach-in closets. However, to maximize value, ensure the closet doesn't significantly detract from the room's usable square footage. Converting an entire room into a closet can actually lower your home's value. Similarly, using overly lavish materials may not recoup their cost. A good strategy is to add a closet that takes square footage from a non-living area, such as a garage, to create a mudroom closet.

There are a few reasons custom closets are expensive: materials used, the luxury factor, and time to build. The people who can afford custom closets are those who can afford increased rates, and construction workers and contractors know this and charge accordingly. The time to build custom closets is substantial, especially if expensive material is being used or intricate details (like carved wood) are added to the project.

When storing your clothes long-term, first consider the container's breathability. While plastic bags, cardboard boxes, or vacuum sealing may be great options for short-term storage, they won’t help your clothes hold up in the long term. Breathable plastic boxes and fabric bags help with airflow, prevent mold or mildew from building up, and allow proper airflow.

Adding a mudroom is one of the most budget-friendly home additions compared to other projects, costing between $8,000 and $16,000 on average. Not only is the room often quite small, but it also requires minimal fixtures or wiring to make the room practical. The most costly features include a weatherproof floor and an exterior door.
