"I have some old oriental rugs and one large wool area rug that The Specialists have cleaned for me twice. I'm very satisfied with the work they do and will definitely hire them again. I always learn something new when they return my rugs. For example, I received a Turkish rug and a "floor pillow" as gifts and knew nothing about them. James was curious about them and researched them for me! He's a wonderful resource."

"Very friendly and accommodating worker. Charged me less than the estimate because he saw one chair was small. Charged less for the carpet cleaning than original estimate because I added on the couch and chairs. Also left me some spot remover. Love that it is environmentally safe and that there are no smells left. Plus, it made me tend to other cleaning as prep like cleaning drapes. Will definitely hire again. Plus they will send reminders and I waited way to long to do this."

Oriental Rug Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Maintenance practices include regular vacuuming, prompt spill cleaning, and periodic professional deep-cleaning to remove embedded dirt particles and rejuvenate fibers.

If there is only a small amount of gum, it’s entirely possible to remove it on your own. What you’re unable to pick or scrape off, try to scrub out with warm soapy water. You can try freezing the garment and removing the hardened gum. Some swear by rubbing peanut butter on the gum before washing. No matter which method you choose, do not put your clothing in the dryer until the gum is 100 percent removed.

Part of the rug cleaning cost depends on the rug material type. Different materials may require different cleaning methods. Some of the most common rug material cleaning costs include:

  • Wool: $5–$8 per square foot

  • Cotton: $2–$8 per square foot

  • Silk: $4–$8 per square foot

  • Synthetic: $1–$4 per square foot

  • Sheepskin: $4–$8 per square foot

  • Sisal: $4–$7 per square foot

  • Other materials: $1–$8 per square foot

Baking soda is an easy and effective way to deodorize an area rug. For minor odors, sprinkle some baking soda over the rug, brush it in gently with your hand or a microfiber cloth, and let it sit for an hour before vacuuming it out. For persistent odors, mix 1 cup of baking soda with 4 cups of water and spray it evenly over your rug. Let the mixture dry, and then vacuum the rug thoroughly. You can also use a commercial rug deodorizer, but make sure you match the product to your rug material to avoid damage.

You should always use hot water to clean your carpets. The heat will help lift dirt and stains as you work over them with your carpet cleaner. Before you fill your tank, allow your faucet to run until you’re sure the water is hot and ready to go.
