"I am grateful to American Professional Builders, I can't complain at all ,they were clean, tidy and responsible, Jose helped me from the beginning, giving me quality attention, helping me find excellent designs for my house, I was very afraid that other companies were going to overcharge me but I trusted Jose and everything was very beautiful, his experience helped me make the most of the space, making it look elegant and luxurious, adjusting to my budget, I would definitely hire them again , because they built my entire home, from the start to finish everything was wonderful, they made my dream and my families dream come true"

"I love this company. I needed new stairs put in my house and this company was licensed, bonded and insured. They came out and in two days put in a new staircase that I absolutely love in my home. When tearing down the old staircase I asked if I could get more storage underneath the stairs. He did a wonderful job. He drywalled the whole under the stairs, all the way to the back. He also suggested I get an electrician to put a light under the stairs, which I did. Now I have a true Harry Potter Room with so much storage. I love it. I was having major problems with my front and back door shutting properly. The doors were old and stuck a lot. He fixed each door and now they shut perfectly. It is so wonderful. Thank you, Amendt Stair Framing, for being so wonderful and doing such a great job."

"This is our 2nd time using mrCC.We had cabinets refaced and new countertops in 2007 and we were very satisfied. The job this time isn’t finished yet but, kitchen cabinets are finished. Our cabinet installer/refacer David was exceptional. On time, very pleasant and his craftsmanship was superior. He listened and solved any problems or concerns we had right away. I highly recommend him (and mr cabinets)for kitchen remodel. All the team and office workers are great. I can’t wait to see finished job but, I wanted to give a comment on progress thus far."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Professionals ensure precise alignment and durability, critical for structural integrity.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.

Many contractors prefer checks because they’re easy to track and have no associated fees. However, many also accept credit cards (though they might add a fee to cover their processing costs).

General contractors use subcontractors to complete specific parts of a construction project. For example, a general contractor might have construction experience but need a subcontractor to install plumbing lines in a new home.
