"I hired MG Drywall to repair ceilings after doing electrical work. Miguel is great. He is very fast. Miguel and his crew did a lot of work. Hanging drywall, complete skim coat on the ceiling and texture. The results are great. Would never know any work was done. I highly recommend MG Drywall and would not hesitate to use them again. Thank you for a fantastic job"

"Mike was great, he was very profession, did an excellent job removing all my popcorn ceiling in both bedrooms, living room and dining room. He was supposed to complete the job in 3 days but he was so quick and efficient he was able to finish it in just 2 days. I would definitely reccomend Mike for Ram drywall over any other drywall company. The price was reasonable and his work was very clean and beautiful."

"Called him out for a quote. He came out to see all the things I needed to have repaired. Gave an email quote the next few days, then took 2 days to complete the work. He did a great job fixing all my drywall problems after a kitchen remodel and patched the ceiling from water damage and holes from old light fixture locations.

"Mr. Lee was first contacted mid-morning and conducted the estimate before lunch. He returned after lunch (as promised) and repaired a 2' drywall tape separation near the top of my vaulted ceiling (about 20' up). He noticed other minor drywall imperfections around the house and promptly repaired those as well for the original price. He was prompt, courteous, reasonably priced, friendly and professional. He takes great pride in his work. Can't recommend him highly enough!"

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”

Because of the nature of the texture, it's common for the popcorn texture to loosen while painting. Popcorn ceilings are delicate, and using a heavy hand with a roller or applying overly wet paint can loosen the texture. To avoid a mess, handle the material gently with a roller or brush. It's also smart to test a small area first, and if the texture starts coming off, the ceiling may need repairs or sealing before painting.

If your popcorn ceiling has noticeable cracks, you may want to have it checked by a professional before cleaning it. Adding any moisture or disturbing the ceiling may worsen the cracks, so find out if your ceiling needs to be repaired by a local contractor before cleaning.

Professionals use spraying or painting machines for application, skimming and filling for repairs, or specialized scraping techniques for safe removal.

Although texturing walls may not seem like a lengthy project, you’ll need to set aside between one and five days to complete it properly. The exact amount will depend on the scope of your project—one room will take less than a whole-house project. That will give you enough time for tasks that are time-consuming in and of themselves, like taping wall edges, priming the walls and letting them dry fully, and actually applying the texture and top or base paint coats.
