"It was a pleasure to work with the owner of this company who gave us quality work for a very fair price. The work crew was all professional, respectful, friendly, and they kept our property clean and picked up during the work process. They painted both my deck and some of my interior walls (matched to the other paint on my walls perfectly!) I highly recommend Paneless Painting Company for any interior or exterior work needed. A-1 crew."

"Brian is an exquisitely talented craftsman with an eye to creativity and detail. He suggested great improvements that I hadn't thought of and am so happy with. He did several projects including building an outdoor storage shed that is charming and perfectly situated on the space available, redid the outside patio with stone and completed several outside staircases and a deck that is simply a work of art. It is maintenance free and stunning. Inside my home he installed a dual sided fireplace, helped me pick out the perfect paint and flooring for the entire house, finished off an open room to be made into an office and installed doors and windows. My bathroom cabinets were refinished and the master bathroom shower was completely redone in a beautiful manner. He completed this large project while dealing with an active household and two large dogs. Brian is organized, personable and easy to work with. The only surprises were good ones and he made my dream home a reality."

"Work was very well done and attention to detail was high. Care was taken to repair deck, strip, sand and stain. The stain selection was well done and the deck (front, side and back) looks amazing."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

When building an outdoor or deck gate, it's crucial to use durable wood that can withstand harsh weather conditions like sunlight, rain, wind, and snow. Redwood and cedar are excellent choices as they naturally resist decay. While redwood is considered more elegant, cedar is a more affordable option. Other suitable woods include oak and pressure-treated pine, which is specifically treated to resist rot. Although some softwoods like pine are popular, untreated softwoods such as pine and spruce should generally be avoided for outdoor projects because they are susceptible to damage from water, rot, and the sun. Ultimately, it's wise to consider your local climate when selecting the right wood for your gate.

The choice between Trex, a brand of composite decking, and PVC decking depends on your priorities regarding budget, appearance, and environmental impact. Both materials are durable and resistant to moisture and insects. Trex is often considered more eco-friendly because it contains recycled wood and plastic and is 25% recyclable, while PVC is fully synthetic and harder to recycle. Aesthetically, Trex is designed to look more like real wood, whereas PVC often has a glossier, more plastic-like finish. In terms of cost, Trex is typically less expensive than PVC.

There are several methods for attaching stair stringers to a deck. The best way is to bolt the stringers to the deck joists using three carriage bolts in a triangular pattern. This method offers the sturdiest fit for stairs that won’t budge. Alternatively, attach the stringers to the deck rims using lag bolts or to the posts using adjustable slope hangers.

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, especially for smaller or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks do not require digging or pouring. However, their use is dependent on local building codes. Some areas, particularly those prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes, may not permit the use of deck pier blocks. It is essential to consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.

Because adding a deck will yield a higher property value, you may have higher insurance costs. It’s important to follow the codes and regulations set by your local and state governments, so your insurance rates can be properly calculated. You may need an insurance revaluation after your deck is completed. The best course of action is to speak with an insurance professional to understand how adding a deck will impact your home’s insurance costs before you begin.
