Our driveway is about 100 feet long and a stretch about 50 feet long was erupting from roots underneath, causing major turbulence every time we drove over it. We got estimates from a few firms and decided on Elite because they seemed professional and experienced, and their estimate was reasonable (other estimates were up to three times higher). I’m glad we did. They did everything in a timely, responsive way, with no unforeseen add-ons, and our driveway is now in excellent shape. I really need to single out Brandon for praise. He was incredibly responsive and devoted. He explained everything in advance in an understandable way. He always responded quickly to my texts, even when I made clear no quick response was necessary. Think of the street as a way to capture all the elements on either side of the road, including the road—a street encompasses the homes or other buildings, the trees, and the road of a given area as defined by the beginning and end of the street on a map. A roadway, however, is the component of the street where cars travel.

Hardscaping is usually a great investment because it makes your yard more useful and it improves your home’s curb appeal, boosting your property value. Depending on the type of hardscaping, you may not see any bump in your property taxes, either, so the downsides can be virtually non-existent. Be sure to hire a reliable hardscape contractor to get the work done professionally the first time around.

While some areas may allow for a slope of up to 20%, this is often the maximum slope for driveways, with a few exceptions of up to 25%. Other regions may have a maximum of 12%, 15%, or 18%, so check with your local building department to ensure you’re laying a driveway that is up to code for your location.

You’ll first need to install a base underneath your pavers for extra stability and drainage. Otherwise, the pavers can sink into the ground, and you’ll have to reinstall them. Use a base gravel layer of 4 to 6 inches for walkways and 10 to 12 inches for driveways. Compact your gravel layer every 2 to 4 inches so it’s nice and solid. After you install your gravel base, apply a 1-inch layer of sand on top.

An example of permeable paving is a set of cinder blocks or natural stone pavers with room inside for natural materials, such as gravel, sand, or grass. You can also design these pavers with brick or plastic tiles.

In addition to these pavers, permeable pavement can be obtained by using a highly porous material, such as pervious concrete or pervious asphalt.
