"Joel is great to work with, forthright, asks questions, listens, and offers advice. We had our manufactured home remodeled. When the job started going sideways with our initial contractor, I started calling around for someone to replace that company. Joel gave us a great bid and had references. He built us a beautiful porch, installed our kitchen cabinets, laid the flooring throughout the house. He referred a great guy to help finish the bathroom tiling, and another to do the painting. There are always delays with any project, but he didn't disappear for days or weeks at a time, he was committed to our project, and would tell us his schedule if he had to be somewhere else. There was constant communication, and if we showed up at the house, he was working. Would highly recommend."

"Found Sentri on Angi. Jeanette and Violet were very pleasant and efficient in getting a contractor to me in the time frame needed. The contractor was excellent and the roof looks great! I would definitely work with them again if I had additional projects."

"We can say that Moriah Remodeling & Construction does get any remodeling project done! Eran and his excellent & professional team worked so efficiently while the painters were able to do a remarkable paint work. They proved to us that they are way much more than other home improvement company much better than what anyone hopes & wish to have. They always were on time, very detailed oriented, accurate & fair estimated, while providing helpful solutions. Eran, on the other hand, did keep his promises and we love it. Eran & the team were friendly, helpful and as minimally noisy as they could. We highly recommend them for any remodeling project such as ours (kitchen and bathrooms remodeling)."

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"Even with such a variety of jobs to get done, everything went smoothly. Beau was a pleasure to work with and scheduling was a breeze. Quality of work was great, with full cleanup done as well. It's been a year since the work was done and I'm going back to him for another round of rework on my 60 year old fixer upper."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Some states require carpenters to be licensed to perform forms of carpentry, such as framing. The license requires a certain amount of experience and to pass an examination. In states that don’t require carpenters to be licensed, they must be licensed as a contractor if they work independently rather than solely as a subcontractor under a licensed builder. Use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to find out whether a potential carpenter is licensed in your state.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface countertops can be cut with standard woodworking tools like a circular saw or a jigsaw, but using the correct blade is crucial for the best results.

The recommended blade is a tungsten carbide-tipped blade, often called a solid-surface planer or triple chip grind blade. This type of blade is hard enough to cut through the material effectively. For a jigsaw, a fine-tooth down-cutting blade should be used.

It is important to note that a diamond blade is not necessary. Diamond blades are designed for harder materials like natural stone, concrete, or brick, and Corian is not a natural stone.

Using blades designed for wood is not recommended as they can cause microfractures that weaken the countertop's edges. While a tungsten carbide blade provides a much cleaner cut, the resulting edge will still be rough and must be sanded and smoothed to prevent microfractures from developing over time.

It is common for a contractor to ask for a down payment before starting a project, especially for jobs that require purchasing materials and equipment or hiring a crew. The deposit amount can range from 10% to 50% of the total job cost. While a request for up to 50% is not unusual, a contractor should not ask for more than that, and you should never pay for a project in full before the work has begun. To protect yourself, always discuss payment terms before starting and have a written contract that outlines the project timeline and expectations. Additionally, be sure to hire reputable contractors and check their licensing and insurance before the project begins.

The boards between floor joists are called bridging or blocking boards. These are the shortest pieces of wood in the flooring system—with beams being the longest and joists sitting somewhere in the middle—and they serve to reinforce the joists and help provide even support to the flooring above. Bridging specifically helps cut down on uneven and creaking floors in your living area.

You don’t need a cutting board. In fact, cutting is the original purpose of butcher block countertops. That said, wood is porous and can harbor germs. You’ll need to clean your countertop thoroughly after use. Knives can also scratch the surface. This adds to the patina of the wood, but not everyone likes the look—in which case, you may want to use a cutting board.
