"I originally called Antonio at CalCoast Gardening regarding a broken sprinkler system. I ended up having him help me design a whole backyard and front yard landscaping project that I could take care of on my own. A very simple, very clean and very low maintenance yard that is also lovely to look at and enjoy. He was always open to my ideas and suggestions. Everything turned out perfect! We are just now going through some very strong rains and the yards are holding up perfectly. Antonio is a very detailed oriented person. His integrity is impeccable. I have already referred him to several of our contacts and I hope they all follow through with using him for their yard needs. We wish Antonio and his team all the success they deserve."

"Josue and his team have been maintaining my yard for a couple of years now. I highly recommend him! He does my regular lawn maintenance but troubleshoots issues as they come up (over the years there have been a few - repairing a very old sprinkler system, cleaning up and removing fallen branches, treating diseased tree). What I love about him is he just takes the initiative to handle whatever needs to be done. My yard is something I never have to worry about. I truly enjoy working with Josue, it brightens my day when I pull up to my house and see him. He is trustworthy and for me, that is the most important factor when hiring someone who has access to my home."

"José and the team are great, they did an amazing job cleaning up my yard after about almost a year not having time to do much to it since I have been sick. They also build me a beautiful paver patio and walkway that now allows me to sit outside and finally enjoy some sun. Thank you again Dream Garden!"

Leaf Removal questions, answered by experts

While not all homes built before 1978 contain lead paint, enough do, so you’ll still want to test to be on the safe side. The federal government banned lead-based paint for homes in 1978, but your state may have banned lead before that time. Around 24% of homes built between 1960 and 1977 contained lead-based paint, while 87% of homes built before 1940 contained lead-based paint.

It is safe to remove old linoleum, but it may require the help of a specialist due to the risk of asbestos in the material. Before you cut into linoleum or try to peel it up, have it tested for asbestos. If it tests positive, professionals will need to remove it to prevent the risk of health issues from airborne toxic particles. If it’s asbestos-free, DIY removal is possible and safe.

If the lead paint is in a place that is not easily disturbed and is not flaking or deteriorating, you do not necessarily need to remove it. Lead is toxic when dust particles or flakes from peeling lead paint are ingested. If people are not in the area with the lead paint, it may be safe to leave it in place. You still may want to consider encapsulation with a paint formulated for covering lead-based paint, just for an added layer of protection.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

You may see specialty products for sale to remove lead dust, such as D-Lead surface wipes. But you do not need to buy a special cleaner just for lead dust. A regular all-purpose cleaner, like 409 or something similar, is sufficient for cleanup. Just make sure to follow the manufacturer's directions when using it and to dilute with water.
