Yes, concrete is significantly stronger than masonry, especially if the concrete pour includes reinforcements, like steel rebar. Concrete is a uniform material that can withstand compression, sheer force, and tensile force as long as it’s reinforced. Mortar and grout are also reasonably strong and resist compression well, but they don’t come close to the strength of poured concrete.

You can concrete can be done when it’s wet or dry. However, it’s safer when wet, as harmful dust and chemicals are present. Sanding it when dry is faster, but you’ll agitate more dust and chemicals, meaning you’ll need to be more careful.

Placing either a layer of mixed-size gravel or a paver base under your crushed concrete driveway is a good idea.
