"Job went very well with good communication and done quickly. My crew was Devone and Gabe - very nice, knowledgeable and respectful. My house is now level and feels stonger to me."

"Adam was fantastic to work with. I had a sliding glass door that was extremely sticky, and after two other companies were unable to fix it, Adam came out promptly and resolved the issue quickly. I was so impressed that I had him repair two additional sliding doors, a screen door, and a shower door hinge while he was there. His pricing was very fair, he was professional and courteous, and the quality of his work was excellent. I would absolutely recommend Adam to anyone needing sliding door, screen door, or related repairs."

"We worked with Ali (sales manager) and Tony (project manager), who took the time to design a project that made sense for our property and our budget, made a number of suggestions and recommendations and were never pushy or tried to "sell" us on something. The crew really went above and beyond to provide top quality workmanship and overall we were in very good hands. Highly recommended!"

"The work was sloppy and they used my personal tarps to handle their materials for the work. They also made a mess of my patio with leftover stucco from the job. I had the owners come back out and power wash my patio, supply me with a new hose and tarp."

Small jobs welcome

"Bob Thompson is a man of his word. he met with my mother and I to talk about a small job to replace the (very steep) stairs into my mom's mobile home with a more gradual (i.e., shorter risers) set of stairs, less prone to cause falls for my 88 year old mother. He already had several jobs going and I know he didn't really want the hassle of our little job, but he came through for us with flying colors. And what a high quality job it was too! The new stairs are a work of art; very sturdy and lovely to look at. Bob and his crew are perfectionists and the job far exceeded our expectations. His crew members that worked on the job (Justin and John) were excellent too. They always showed up on time, were very polite and did excellent work, leaving the job neat and tidy each day. Bob checked in on the job each day to make sure things were going well. I can't say enough nice things about R.W. Thompson Const and crew. This is a very high quality contractor (unlike some of the others that we contacted and never heard from again.) You can't go wrong with this company. Aileen Queen (Santa Rosa)"

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

There are a range of egress window types available, including:

  • Single-hung: $100–$400

  • Double-hung: $250–$500

  • Horizontal/sliding: $150–$800

  • Casement: $200–$500

  • In-swing: $350–$700

When choosing a type of egress window, consider how you’d like to open it. For example, double-hung egress windows open from top to bottom and let plenty of fresh air in, whereas sliding windows slide open for easy access.

Yes, you can always make an existing window bigger, but the job complexity varies widely depending on the location of the window and the framing around it. Exterior walls are always load-bearing, so making windows wider will require structural changes that make for a more complex but doable project. Making windows taller often won’t require structural changes.

Egress windows are typically required for basements with habitable space or living quarters. Not all basements or lower levels require egress windows. However, egress windows are required in homes with living spaces such as bedrooms and living rooms in a basement. The International Residential Code and International Building Code require sleeping rooms to have a specific size egress window. Check your local building codes to confirm the requirements in your area.

There are a few ways to save money on egress window installation. First, choosing pre-fabricated windows instead of custom windows can help dramatically reduce the overall cost. In addition, skipping window extras, like customized frames or window film, can help save money on the price tag without sacrificing the window itself. You should also shop around to multiple window installers to find the best installation deal without sacrificing the quality of the window.

They meet local code demands for escape routes, lighten basements, and aid in reducing overall humidity.
