"I hired Abel of Discount Tree Service recently. He was prompt, punctual and courteous when he arrived to provide me with an estimate for trimming my enormous pine tree. The price was agreed upon and we set a date for the work to be done. His crew arrived on time and went right to work. They did an amazing job! After cutting off branches and limbs, removing overhang from my roof and neighbor's driveway they went right to work cleaning up the fallen pine needles and other tiny pieces of tree limbs. I WOULD HIRE THEM AGAIN IF NEEDED AND RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY WHOLEHEARTEDLY FOR YOUR TREE SERVICE NEEDS. T .Peterson"

"A & M tree service turned my gigantic, never trimmed in 20+ years Aleppo pine tree into a work of art. The visit and quote process was quick and professional. The five person crew arrived at 7:30 am as promised and completed the massive trimming job, including removal of all branches and trimmings before dark on the same day. I asked them to make the tree look like the pine trees in the medians maintained by our city, and they made ours look even better. They told me early in the job that they had discovered two nests in the trees that would be left as is. The crew chief and workers were friendly and responsive to my questions. Highly recommended."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

A dead tree should always be cut down, because it could fall and cause injuries or damage, and it can also attract insects like carpenter ants. A tree that’s diseased beyond repair should also be cut down, but it’s not always easy for a homeowner to tell. Signs of disease include dying branches, a hollow trunk, leaning, and discolored or missing leaves, but your best bet is to hire a local arborist who can evaluate the tree and tell you if it can be saved or should be cut down.

Transporting a fully-grown tree requires heavy equipment, typically specialized for the task. A tree spade is a truck-mounted tool that removes the tree from the ground in one location, transports it, and places it in a new hole in a new location. A combination of mechanized shovels and lifts is necessary to move very large trees, and the exact tools often depend on location and the surrounding area.

A standard tree removal doesn’t include stump grinding. If you want your contractor to remove your tree and grind the stump, you must pay an extra charge. That said, you’ll likely save on the cost of stand-alone service—especially if it’s a small tree and they can finish both jobs in a single trip.

Ivy eventually kills trees by restricting its growth, blocking sunlight, absorbing nutrients and water from the soil, and weakening the tree. Trees with ivy are more likely to experience diseases, pests, rot, and fungi growth. When ivy weighs down tree branches, the tree is more likely to break during a storm and cause damage.

Only trim palm trees as needed, which is usually about once per year. However, don't stick to that schedule if the palm tree doesn't need it. Avoid trimming palm trees when possible. It’s best to trim palm trees only when you notice a buildup of dead fronds. That said, leave the brown fronds during the dormant season because this organic matter helps protect the tree from the cooler weather.
