"We had several windows and doors replaced and I was really impressed with the new windows and doors as well as the professional installation by Perry and his crew. They made sure everything was square, clean, and caulked. Great job! I highly recommend Metropolitan High Performance Windows."

"Although this is my sister's home I have had good experiences with Angie's List so I researched and contacted 3 businesses that specialize in windows. I knew the cost would be more expensive but I wanted a company that built their own and had an established history. The decision was made to go with Brothers Home Improvement in big part because the Sales Rep, Curtis Hodding, worked so hard at explaining in detail the product, history of the company and the state requirements necessary to do business and guarantee their product. A good price was negotiated to compete with the other offers received. It was not the least expensive but the quality is outstanding, plus there is a fair lifetime guarantee. The meeting with Curtis took place 9/22/10 and the work was completed within 8 hours on 12/6/10. Depending on the order it can take 6-8 weeks to schedule installation. Communication with company representatives was easy and response timely. My sister wanted to add her input which is the following. "This is to let you know that I had recently had new Brother?s Windows installed in my home (Dec.6th.) and could not have been more pleased not only with the quality of the windows, but the quality of work done by the 3 gentlemen that installed them. Amir (I do hope that is the correct spelling of his name), Josh, and Brandon. They were on time, and were very prompt in starting their work. Their teamwork was extraordinary. What was also impressive was the great cleanup after the installations were finished, I couldn?t even find a wayward nail! Another person that impressed me was Kelly at the Sacramento office. She was very courteous, and took her time to make sure that she answered any questions I had regarding the time of appointment, and concerns I had regarding the possibility of rain. When you have people working for you such as these, I do hope you will recognize their contributions to the reputation of Brothers." There was some follow-up work that was scheduled for January. It was minor. A piece of tile was replaced in the bathroom when the original was accidently cracked, and the plastic lock on the screen door was not fitting properly so that was replaced too. When my sister called to inquire she was told that Brandon had reported it so it was in the system. That work was done as promised. My sister and her family are so impressed by the difference in outside noise and the heat maintained in the home. This was a sound investment. In following I took advantage of the half price subsrciption to Angie's List offered in December as an extra gift for my sister."

"Kyle Beym is a very calming sort of guy. He and I spoke several times before I hired him and I was very clear that I wanted to purchase the materials and kind of act as my own project manager. Kyle was very understanding and after getting two other bids, I chose him based on my conversations with Kyle and the ratings and comments here. Kyle brought in two of his men, Arturo and Felipe. I couldn't have asked for two better professionals than these two men. They were punctual, professional, accommodating put in ten hour days. Their work was outstanding. I supplied all of the materials and they installed the flooring, tiled the shower and tub in the master bath, with all new porcelain and pebble flooring in the shower, and mosaic glass inserts in the walls, replacing faucets, closing up a wall and put in a new opening, installing and painting a barn door, painting the walls and ceiling, and installing LED recessed lights. In my son's room they had to tear out the entire carpet which he ruined and they installed porcelain flooring that looks like wood. Beautiful! In his bathroom they replaced some broken tile, installed a new shower door, replaced the faucets for his shower and tub and moved the shower faucet up two and a half feet from its original low position."

"Peter was an expert problem solver. We had a 16 year old heavy wooden pivot door for the front door. We had to remove and reinstall so that we could move an elephant through the opening. We had no other options. But Peter worked it out and did a great job!"

"Hector from Quality Glass OC was amazing in creating a solution for my unusual neo angle shower enclosure. I called numerous glass companies and none of them were able to come up with a solution. I’m so grateful to Quality Glass OC for their expertise and professionalism. The shower looks wonderful and I would highly recommend them to any of my friends and family."

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can hire someone to hang a mirror in your home if you’re unable to tackle the job yourself. You can search for nearby mirror installers, but often, your best bet is a local handyperson. If you’re having other work done in the same room, such as plumbing, drywall, or electrical, those contractors are likely able to help hang the mirror as well—no need to hire someone else.

Never put glass in the garbage disposal. It can damage your disposal or eject shards of glass out of the disposal and cause injury. If you get broken glass in your garbage disposal, turn it off and cut the power from the breaker, use a tool like pliers or tongs to remove the glass, and use a wet-dry vacuum to remove the remaining glass pieces. If you can’t access the disposal safely, call a garbage disposal repair pro.

If you decide to forgo your old windows and upgrade them to modern day technology, there may be some people interested in the old windows. You can try selling them on an online marketplace for around $50 to $100 each (so long as the window wasn’t damaged during the removal). This can also help off set the overall price to replace them.

Yes, you can resilver old mirrors without any issues, and in many cases, it’s is the only way to maintain and preserve old, antique mirrors. Resilvering involves stripping the old silver off of the mirror, replacing the silver, and adding a protective backing to the glass. The process costs around $15 per square foot of glass, making it a relatively inexpensive solution for making older mirrors functional again. You can buy a DIY resilvering kit, but we strongly recommend hiring a professional to avoid additional damage and mistakes.

The best way to transport wine glasses is to pack them upright in a divided, padded box designed specifically for stemware. First, wrap each glass individually with bubble wrap or packing paper, ensuring both the bowl and the delicate stem are cushioned. If you don't have a divided box, you can still pack them safely. After wrapping each glass and securing the material with tape, place them upright in a sturdy box. Layer soft items like dish towels, crumpled paper, or clothing between the glasses to prevent them from touching. Fill any remaining gaps with additional padding to keep the glasses snug and prevent shifting. Finally, clearly label the box as “FRAGILE GLASSWARE” or “FRAGILE–HANDLE WITH CARE” to ensure careful handling.
