General building contractor who currently works independently and is looking to grow business to hire one employee. I do mostly carpentry and cabinet making my self. I do perform other trades depending on how much there is. I have good dependable subcontractors that I call when necessary. Depending on the size of the job, I ask for down payment and progress payments or may just wait to bill the job once it is complete.

Welcome to Maden Home Building, Inc.! We pride our company on reliability, great communication, integrity, and quality work. We are experts in our trade, and will do our best to keep you as educated as we can on your particular task or project. We look forward to earning your business!

"Mike, Anna, and Johnny make a great team who I have enjoyed working with while making our custom home project come to life. Building a home is a stressful time, and there were a lot of curveballs thrown on our project through COVID, new PG&E rules and government regulations, and a law firm that took WAY longer than needed to draw up a utility easement with our neighbor. Every construction project is unique and will have its own issues pop up. Itâ s how the problems are handled that matters. MHB was honest and professional throughout the process, and you can tell they care about the ownerâ s satisfaction with the end product."

"Okay, I never write reviews, but I had to this time because Seth is amazing. I moved into my house 6 months ago and the day after we moved in, our doorbell stopped working. 3 electricians later (2 of whom were through my home warranty), the doorbell still isn't working. They tried everything and they just couldn't find the transformer to fix the doorbell. In comes Seth....his first visit, he diagnosed the problem and then had to order parts. A few weeks later once the parts come in, he comes over and within 1 hour it is fixed...he solved a problem that others thought were impossible. He's my doorbell savior and it's just in time....all those trick or treaters now can ring my doorbell for some candy.....THANK YOU SETH!!! Affordable, knowledgeable, friendly and most importantly, can fix the problem - what more could I possibly ask for?"

Valley Home Builders, Inc. is a full-service residential remodeling firm offering design/build services to its clients. If you're living with a bad floor plan, outdated rooms, or you simply need more space, let our seasoned pros take your project from imagination to reality. We offer free estimates in your home or over the phone and will work weekends and evenings to accommodate your schedule. Our staff includes Architects, Designers, project developers, project managers and a construction staff of carpenters, foundation, and framing experts. VHB also has a Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer, and an office staff that handles bookkeeping, insurance, safety, sales, and marketing operations. We continue to focus on Customer Satisfaction as our highest priority and take great pride in the work we do and the relationships we build with our clients. As a Silicon Valley firm, we pay particular attention to technology, both in terms of our customers' projects and our own operations. Our software systems are the best in the business and we utilize them to keep costs low and estimates accurate. Valley Home Builders is owned and operated by Mehdi Vatani. Mehdi holds a Bachelor of Degree in Business Economics from University of California, Santa Barbara. Mehdi is known as an extremely likable and reliable person who listens closely to his customers' needs and works very hard to see their dreams come true. "One way you can tell a project is successful is when at its completion you feel you made the right choice for your builder, among other initial options. One year later, this impression is confirmed. The good impression we had at first with Arman was confirmed. VHB was definitely up to the task, very professional. Their top strength was in their architectural design experience and advices (Robert), and in project management (Mohammad), while all other aspects of the execution exuded professionalism. The VHB owner followed closely the project, and was hands on. Given that we had non-standard demands (insulation, structure), VHB proved to be quite flexible in accommodating our requests and in problem solving situations - both for the main structure and interior design. If we had some frustration it came from where we did not expect it: the slow processing of permit requests from the city, complex and arcane regulations (in spite of the city recently vowing to ease ADU construction), and the city clearly messed-up by requesting some changes late in the construction due to new fire regulations (closeness to the main home) while city could have caught these at the very beginning on the blueprint when presented for the initial permit. VHB proved to be patient, resourceful and accommodating. Afterward we realized how much our project needed a robust, cohesive and experienced team and VHB turned out to be exactly that. Jacques & Michele."

Hi, my name is Paul Mikita. Owner of Mikita Construction. We take pride in our workmanship, and I personally work on all my projects. Customer satisfaction is our #1 goal. I am very easy to get a hold of and will ALWAYS return your calls! I have a drug free workplace and we speak English. Thank you very much for your consideration! Additional referrals available upon request. Lic #799711, bonded and insured.

"Paul came right out to look at the patio. He put me in touch with a roofer, who unethically tried to cut Paul out of the picture, and was also not available right away. Paul quickly found me a new roofer that came out promptly and removed the old roof. Paul then replaced all of the damaged wood and painted it to match the existing roof bays. The roofer returned to re-roof the patio. They did a good job and finished in a timely manner. Paul was very pleasant and easy to work with. He followed through on what he said he would do. My only suggestion for improvement would be to provide a more official receipt. Because it was part of a real estate transaction, by law I needed to provide the buyer with a receipt for the work that was done. I did get a receipt, but it was an email stating what work had been done, instead of a normal receipt. The realtors accepted it, but both said a real receipt would have been better."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

The average cost to build a modular home is around $270,000, and most modular homes total between $180,000 and $360,000. Of course, this price varies significantly by location, and the price tends to follow the cost of living in the area. There are quite a few other factors at play that can affect your pricing, including the following:

  • Number of bedrooms and bathrooms

  • Site preparation, including land clearing and leveling

  • Type of foundation

  • Utility connections

  • Cost of building permits

Local regulations dictate how big an ADU can be, and there may also be restrictions on the percentage of the main residence’s square footage an ADU can have. In most cases, an ADU must be smaller than the main residence, but check with your local building authority to confirm restrictions on ADU size.

Most contractors aim for about a 20% profit on a job, leaving themselves room for unexpected expenses or delays. After accounting for materials, labor, and insurance, the profit margin for most contractors is between 10% and 20%. Fluctuating costs of materials and labor affect the ultimate percentage.

How long it takes to build an in-law suite will vary by type. The time it takes to build an addition will typically be less than for completely new construction. Expect to spend about two months if you convert a basement, attic, or other existing room in your home. New structures can take up to five months, plus up to two months to receive the required permits.

When you compare traditional houses to prefab homes, the latter can be more sustainable for many reasons. For example, manufacturers have a more streamlined construction process for modular homes, which means there’s less waste. Additionally, some prefabricated housing manufacturers strive for energy-efficient buildings, and others produce off-the-grid capable homes that produce their own energy.

Some companies even offer net-zero buildings, which are arguably the most sustainable. So if sustainability is important to you, prefab homes can be a great fit.
