"We needed a garbage disposal fixed for the holidays they were able to come in find out what was wrong and what we needed to fix it. Just as swiftly they were able to repair it efficiently while teaching us along the way just in case any more problems arrived in the future. Super friendly and ready to tackle any challenges you might have for them big or small."

Customers say: Quality work

"This company was and used the best sub contractors they were professional, kind and excellent in their field of expertise. The project manager Tyler D Anda went above and beyond during the duration of this job. Peter Geer (contractor) was excellent to work with. I take care of one of the Great Grandsons and every man on the crew treated Elliot as if he were their own. Tape and texture men even allowed Elliot to put masking tape on the floor to hold down the tarps. I believe the work quality is five star, but the rating wouldn't allow me to give that rating. Highest praises to PG Construction and all the sub contractors - Schmidt's Cabinet Company INC. Davis , L&U Granite and cabinets, Vacaville, Crestview Flooring, Sacramento, Brett's glass and shower door, Woodland, Maple & Stone Woodland, Mckee Brothers Plumbing, Prime Electric Woodland and Machado Landscape Construction& Maintenance. Excellent one and all!"

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

The cost to build a second-story deck averages $4,800, though the actual price could range as low as $420 to upwards of $16,000. While labor costs range between 35% and 50% of the total project cost, the materials and complexity of design will ultimately lead you to save or spend more money on this home addition.

Yes, but ensuring the deck has a solid foundation with adequate footings is critical before building, as the weight of a sunroom will put significant pressure on the structure below. Even if your deck is properly constructed, it may not be able to handle the extra weight. While some basic, lightweight, prefabricated sunrooms can sit on a deck with a strong existing foundation without additional supports, in many cases, the foundation and joists will need reinforcement. It is always best to have a structural engineer perform an inspection to evaluate the deck's quality and structural integrity. A professional can help you decide if reinforcement is sufficient or if it's better to tear down the deck and start over.

For a 12x20-foot (240-square-foot) deck, you can expect to pay between $7,200 and $14,400. This cost is based on a general price of $30 to $60 per square foot. The final price will depend on factors such as the decking material, design complexity, deck type, location, and local labor costs. Keep in mind that add-ons will increase the total; for example, adding an under-deck drainage system to a deck of this size could cost an additional $7,700.

The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.

Before installing a deck, you must build a base for the deck to rest upon, often made of compacted soil or gravel. While gravel is an optional material, it helps with drainage. Some contractors also recommend installing a weed control membrane, which helps provide a solid foundation for the frame. In the case of an elevated deck, a pro will often lay down a concrete slab as a foundation.
