"Professional, Efficient, and Clean Work hired Mr. Lee to patch a damaged section of my kitchen wall, and I'm very pleased with the results. He arrived on time, completed the job in about two hours, and left the area neat and tidy. The patch blends seamlessly with the surrounding wall-smooth finish, no visible seams, and ready for paint. If you need reliable, high-quality drywall repair without the hassle, I highly recommend Mr. Lee. Great value for honest, skilled work!"

"CSM did an amazing job replacing the pool tiles and veneer stone around our pool. This job was extremely challenging since the pool was not drained and all the surface areas had curved walls. CSM paid very close attention to the quality within their work. They kept a clean environment. The project looks fantastic, they went above and beyond for us. I highly recommend this company!"

Customers say: Quick response

"I called 2 contractors and did not receive a response. I then went through Home Advisor and had two estimates. Joseâ s estimate was about 1/2 the price the other entity gave me. Jose did the work and did a great job. The block wall looks great. There were some other minor issues with the wall and Jose just fixed them because it would make for a better finished project. Overall .. Iâ m happy with the work and could recommend Jose to anyone in need of his assistance."

Small jobs welcome

"They did a great job with the drywall patching! They were upfront about the pricing and the limits of what they could do (we have to take on the painting, but it works). Really happy to not have holes in the wall anymore, and it was very reasonable and done in a timely way."

"I needed my back block wall repaired. Emilio was very courteous and explained how the wall can be repaired and provided a very competitive quote. He even added the wall toppers at no extra cost which was a great and welcomed surprise. The crew, Robert and Manuel did an awesome job on the repair. They were very professional, clean and detailed in their work. You can tell they take pride in their craft. They went that extra mile in making sure we were happy with the work. Would definitely hire again and will be refereeing to any friends and family."

Customers say: Quality work

"I have used Pier for over 20 years for projects both large and small, so I didn't hesitate to call on his expertise again when I needed to raise a long privacy wall in my backyard and cover it with stone veneer. First job was the removal of a huge vine which had covered the wall and had died. Secondly, he added 16 inches to the top of the wall. Finally, he covered the entire wall with stone veneer panels and slate on the columns. He finished the entire project in less than three weeks, and the result was absolutely beautiful! He pays such attention to detail and makes certain that we are 100% delighted with the final product. I highly recommend Pier for any type of work or renovation that you may have in mind."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

Sand and gravel are two suitable options for filling behind a retaining wall. If you’re building your own retaining wall, you’ll complete this part of the process—known as backfilling—after you finish laying the blocks. Make sure not to skip it—otherwise, you could wind up with drainage issues, which can cause your retaining wall to collapse.

Options include concrete, stone, brick, and wood, tailored for specific design needs.

Small retaining walls still require a foundation of some kind, typically a concrete footing. This helps to ensure the wall is structurally sound and prevents the ground from shifting over time, especially during those winter freeze/thaw cycles. The footing helps spread the weight of the wall and the load it carries over a larger area of the ground, thus assisting with stability. This is true of small retaining walls, larger rock garden walls, and the like.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.
