Customers say: True professional

"Leo was very helpful and quick to respond. We’re happy with how our 2 bathrooms turned out. Project was completed within the time promised. Our only complaint is that the workers did not clean up very well. But overall, we’re satisfied and we’ll use them again."

"We have casement windows requiring lots of TLC. The windows are beautiful but the cranks, locks and latches frequently need servicing due to misuse and the ocean air and moisture. ABA Windows has rescued our windows many times with short notice. They are safety first, conscientious and really great with repair. Never any pressure to replace the windows. ABA values a quality product and is willing to go out of their way to find an elusive part and get the job completed properly. They also replace glass! Affordable, precise and efficient. As an added plus they are local!"

"I own a relatively large Eichler home. When it comes time to replace my 30+ windows and 5 sliding doors, I did my research and received more than a few quotes.

Terry was the only company that came more than 1 time, as a matter of fact, 6 times, to come, explain the materials and options, re-visit to confirm what needs to be done, etc. Five Star Windows was the only company that showed me different double pane glass with Low E, Low E2, and Low E3 coatings and demonstrated how effective each is against heat. Terry also explained the price difference and recommend the one that would be ideal for an Eichler.

I was also replacing my skylights, all twelve 2 feet by 6 feet panels. All the other companies came, did the measurements, and offer exact double pane replacements. Terri took the time, did the measurements, explain to me what type of glass will give me the the optimal heat reduction. He also explained the current codes and what is required and safest for my family. What impressed me the most was he went up the roof, came down, and went back up again and was able to identify who made the Skylight frame. Granted my house was built in the 60's, but he identified the maker of the frame and contacted the maker to inquire if a new frame is more suited for my new triple pane skylights. This passion, knowledge, and expertise is welcome and not seen from other vendors I received quotes from.

On top of all the window work, I also decided to replaced my front door to a new pre-hung door with better weather proofing and seals.

I decided to go with Five Star even though they were one of the more expensive quotes, but I also believe in "you get what you pay for", and I am glad I did.

When all the windows came, Terry and his team Glenn and Jeff inspected every piece of glass. One of the glass was of wrong measurements, and it was sent back immediately for a new one. Then there were these twelve triple pane skylight glass panels. Upon inspection, Terry did not like how the seals were done and sent all twelve panels back. I would not have known otherwise, but Five Star took the initiative and took care of me. They could have ignore the issue and avoid the hassle, and I am glad they did not.

The install was done timely and as promised. Throughout the 3 week installation process, the crew Glenn and Jeff came on time daily and cleaned up every day when they are done.

The new front door handle and lock set took 6 weeks to come, and it came in the wrong color because of my own fault. Heather from the office worked with me and re-ordered. This time around, one of the lock sets did not work, so Heather ordered another set for me. The third time around, the incorrect set was picked and shipped by the shipper, and then the forth time, the lock handle was not the correct side, and the fifth time's the charm. Throughout this process, Heather had been more than accommodating and patient with me. I was frustrated myself, but she was professional and followed though every time.

On a final note, 2 months after the install, I notice a 6 inch scratch on one of the sliding doors. I called Five Star, and they had the manufacturer come and replaced the door panel, no questions, no hassles.

I am very glad I chose Five Star, I would recommend them to any of the my friends and family. I would say it again, you get what you pay for. Five Star and the entire team certainly showed me a quality and hassle free experience."

"This is our second time using Goodfellas.? We remodeled an entire floor which included the master bath, master closet, second bedroom with new walk in closet, which was quite a complicated operation. Adam was very responsive and always available keeping us up to date daily on progress. When we ran into issues, he was quick to call and was a good problem solver. I will recommend them to my friends and work with them again."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Yes, professionals can install decorative or colored glass block patterns for a unique look.

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.

Glass block windows come in various patterns and styles that offer privacy and unique aesthetics. Frosted or textured glass diffuses light and enhances privacy. Wave-pattern glass blocks imitate ocean waves with flowing lines. Ice-glass blocks resemble cracked ice. Fluted glass blocks feature parallel vertical grooves, adding texture and depth. Clear glass blocks, similar to glass Coke bottles, offer transparency with some distortion and may have smooth surfaces or subtle textures, adding visual interest.

Regular cleaning with non-abrasive cleaners helps prevent buildup and maintains clarity.

Glass block mortar is the best choice for glass block window units. It is specifically formulated for glass block window installation. Glass block mortar is usually a mixture of Portland cement, sand, and special chemicals. It is a white mortar that is applicable inside and outside your home. Do not use regular tile mortar because it may not have the binding strength and flexibility required for glass block windows.
