"The wood burning fireplace  fit the style of our farm house much more than the gas insert did.  Penguin came out and looked at the space.  They recommended some work be done to make this fireplace functional  (mortar touch up, painting, chimney cap, a wood burning panel reflector to draw in more heat and the glass door).  All of this work came at a reasonable price.  I am very pleased with the end results.

No, you can’t inspect the roof yourself if you want to get your roof certified for your mortgage lender or insurance underwriter. You’ll need to get it inspected by a licensed professional. If you happen to be a licensed inspector, this means that commercial rules apply, and you’d need to get your Remote Pilot Certificate, just as you would if using the drone for another business purpose. 

However, if you want to use a drone to simply check out the roof, it’s considered recreational use. You won’t need your Remote Pilot Certificate, but you’ll still need to register your drone with the FAA and follow FAA and any state guidelines during the flight.

Look for certified local roofing contractors with plenty of experience working with cedar. There are also several important roofing questions to ask before choosing a roofer, including whether they are licensed, bonded, and insured. Once you’ve rounded up a few good candidates, compare estimates and hire whoever gives you the best bang for your buck.

While you can technically install new roof sheathing over an old layer, it is generally not recommended for several reasons. Installing new sheathing over old can trap moisture, which may lead to future problems, especially in humid climates. It also adds significant weight to the roof structure and prevents you from inspecting the original sheathing for rot, mold, or other damage.

However, in some cases, if the old sheathing has been thoroughly inspected and is in excellent condition with no signs of rotting, warping, or damage, a roofer may install new sheathing over it to add strength and stability. Despite this, the more common and recommended practice is to remove the old roof sheathing entirely before installing a new layer, as removing it is not a difficult task.

The most obvious and severe sign of a roof leak is the presence of wet spots on your ceilings, specifically on the top floor of your home. You can also identify a roof leak from your attic if you see sagging insulation or if you notice mold growth or water stains on the rafters or the underside of the roof deck. From the street, look for cracked or missing shingles, moss growth, and shingles that are curling upward, all of which can suggest a leak.
