Chimney Cleaning and Inspection
Benny, who said he was from Cali Chimney, was supposed to arrive at 2 pm. He called at 2 and said he would arrive at 3. He called again and actually arrived a bit after 4. We have a wood stove which opens into the living room on one side and into the kitchen area on the other side. He took a look and said; That will be $450, but I need to look at your chimney. He went on the roof and came down, and waved a picture on his phone at us and said that it would be $1200 to fix the missing mortar in the chimney. He said we could have leaks during rain. We were really caught off guard. No way we could climb up on the roof to see what he was talking about. We are 86 and 85! So we told him, with some reluctance, to go ahead. He was only up on the roof for about 15minutes. Again no way we could check what he was doing. Then he worked from the living room side of the wood stove with an electric-powered drill with a 4 to 5 ft thing attached, which whirled around and got soot off the inside of the chimney and made a point of showing us and showing what was in his shop vac. I asked about the top of the chimney, and he said he already did it. We didn't hear anything, but our hearing isn't great. When he said he was done, I asked if he wasn't going to clean the windows on the doors of the wood stove. He asked for Windex and a paper towel. I asked if he didn't need a razor blade to scrape off the soot. He said no. I don't think he knew what he was doing. He really didn't get them clean - actually made a mess of it. I did it after he left. Then he told us the total would be $1,716.20, A lot for 1 + hr of questionable work, but we didn't know what to do. Refuse payment? Then he wouldn't take a check. Just Venmo or Zelle, which we don't usually do. Eventually, he took a credit card. We felt suspicious at this point. The next day, I called another chimney sweep to come and check if our chimney was actually clean and about the work around the bricks on the chimney. This guy came yesterday. He reported that the chimney was not thoroughly cleaned and that the area around the bricks was just painted on, not the mortar! Also, we learned that this company's standard charge for cleaning the chimney would be $265. We certainly feel stupid!

Avoid this company. There pricing model is a complete sham - they quote you a price before they come out to your property and as soon as they are in the door, that pricing model changes, and you are charged a completely different rate which is significantly more. Their work quality also leaves a lot to be desired. Their employee allegedly repaired the mortar in our fireplace only for the "new" mortar to flake away after less than 4 fires. We were charged $250 for this project for shooting some caulk that costs $8 at the hardware tore into the crack. What a joke. When we informed them that the caulk was breaking away, they did send someone out to repair the issue but that work also left a lot to be desired. It was done haphazardly, messy, and I had to clean up the excess caulk after the workman left. I'd expect more for what they charged. Save yourself some money and piece of mind and hire a different company.

I paid called chimney to come and inspect and clean my chimney I stated to him the chimney has not been used in 6 years He stated to me it was $200 for the service.. Before he left I told him I didn't have anything to test a chimney did he he told me he didn't need to test it and it was good I was ready to go it was fine.. He test the shoot he showed me how to use it and he opened the shoot and say it leave it there .That evening I went to buy logs and proceed to light my fireplace. It started off fine and then smoke started to come from the top Vent into the house from the fireplace I thought it was just burning off a little smoke because it had not been used in a while but the more the The fire burned the more the smoke kept coming out the vent continuously until it filled the entire house. I decided to try to put the fire out The glass shattered on to the carpet and burned it That made the smoke worse. From the shattered glass door. Soot is on my walls and on my fireplace. He should have tested it before he left. Sometimes was clearly wrong.

"This customer light the fire with the flue closed, which of course was gonna cause them the smoke, we did NOT an inspection and cleaning, customer paid JUST for the cleaning the most basic price of $200, we clean the chimney and was perfect! Also we even agreed to go to their house and check it out again and even offer the refund, and then they send some pictures where we realized that the flue was closed, we decided to help them anyway and we call them to say we were going to be there earlier and they didn’t answer, they didn’t call back, and they haven’t reach us for over a week- which of course confirms that they realized that the mistake was made by them- and after a week of NO communication we received a claim and a bad review, which also make no sense cuz THIS IS NOT A CUSTOMER THAT WE GOT THROUGH ANGI."

The experience was awful. I’ve explained the circumstances twice now and don’t wish to take more time to do so once again. Basically, Cali Chimney Sweep is misrepresenting themselves as a local company. In this case Local Chimney in Castro Valley. Then, attempting to charge ridiculous fees for services. In this case, requesting $200 for a job that took less than 5 minutes to complete and failing to provide a formal quote to do so.

"This was indeed a super awful experience, we get to the customer house and she ask to place a cap back because it had fall out of place and even if the cap was damage we fix it and place it back, indeed a quick job, the price for the installation of a new cap is $350 so we agree to charge $200 and after that $150 just for the placing back, didn’t event charge the fixing. The customer start yelling the technician and saying that it was a $50 job, which is completely out of any sense first of all because $50 is not even the gasoline that it takes to move a technician to a job, and second because since when is the person who demand the service the one in charge of setting up the prices? The manager call the customer and she yelled to the manager as well who at the end of a super uncomfortable situation told the technician to leave, this customer got the job for free, which is also not mentioned on the comment, the lack of education and respect from the customer was so huge and the yelling was so out of place that the technician decide just to leave the place, not even taken the $50 that she pretend to pay for a job which price ON THE MARKET is $150, really disappointing that the company rate goes down due to such a bad experience with this customer but always thankful for the good customers who can give real reviews for real jobs, this jobs was done for free and with all the lack of respect in between yelling and threatening from the customer to the company. Glad we have the opportunity to give an answer back."

Totally awful. They have no idea what they are doing. Couldn't handle a fireplace insert properly, ruining my baffle blanket. Also the pricing is a scam. They quote one price over the phone, then charge 3X on arrival.
