"Mikes Home Improvement turned out to be my new “Go To” contractor! I love my new tub and my awesome deck! Mike and his workers were always on time, cleaned up every day and did great work. They were friendly and professional too! They can do it all and do it well! I am so grateful I found Mike, and I found him on Angi’s List!"

"Mike and his crew gutted a bathroom built in the 70s. The results are beautiful. Tile step in shower. Moved the drain and water from the left to the right. Installed decorative grab bars. New vanity, mirror and vanity lighting. The job was finished in a timely manner along with paying to have a cleaning service come in. So much dust. I will definitely recommend and higher again."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

DIY is possible for small projects. Professional services ensure precision and long-lasting results.

Yes, but you should only put tile directly on drywall in smaller areas that don’t experience excess moisture. For example, a small kitchen tile backsplash could work, but installing tile directly on the drywall in a bathroom or other chronically damp area is not a good idea. Either way, a cement backer board is a far more reliable solution, as drywall is susceptible to moisture and can warp or cause your tiles to crack.

Regrouting is cheaper than retiling, and it involves less work. Grout is available in a wide range of colors, making it a cost-effective way to improve the look of any tiled area in your home.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.

Different types of tile cutters may work best depending on the type of tile you are cutting and the size of your project. There are two main types of tile cutters: manual and electric. Manual tile cutters are quick and easy to use for small projects and softer tile materials, but they can only make straight cuts. Electric tile cutters make light work of big projects and can cut through harder materials.
