"It was Saturday Morning and one toilet started overflowing fast, we tried to stop it with our home plunger but water was gushing out really fast, then we stopped it and we needed to use the second bathroom while cleaning the first, and the second toilet started gushing out water as well, and water rushed up to the top of the tub. It was very stressful. I called four plumbers, who were not available and one had emergency number, and did not return my call. I called "My Plumber" he said he would be at my home in 15 minutes and arrived in 10 minutes. He evaluated the problem, have us his opinion, and ran the camera to show us the problem, gave us the estimate, and worked all day Saturday and Sunday to resolve the problem. He was professional, prompt, and honest. His price was fair for the labor parts and he worked Saturday and Sunday in the rain."

"Best response and service we have ever had for a plumbing problem. They called us immediately and very patiently listened to our issue and walked through the pricing and process. A plumber came to our home as scheduled and worked efficiently to assess and fix the problem. We had a drain clog (not camera locate breakage) and they removed the toilet, snaked the drain and fixed the problem very quickly! There were no surprises and we paid for their service by the hour rather than by the job which saved us many $$s. We would definitely use then again and highly recommend."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

If you’ve accessed the bolts and nuts that hold your toilet seat in place and can’t unscrew them, it’s possible that they were overtightened or that the material corroded over time, making it impossible to unscrew. If that’s the case, you can either call in a plumber for help, or you can DIY a solution if you’re careful. Lay down masking tape around the mounting bracket and then use the tape as a surface to lay a hack saw blade. Move slowly to cut through the bracket and bolt, being careful not to damage the porcelain in the process.

Toilet seats have two mounting brackets on the back that accept mounting bolts. The bolts drop through the brackets, through two small holes on the top of your toilet, and then receive nuts to hold them in place on the bottom of the toilet. If you can’t see the bolt heads, you might need to pry up the mounting bracket cover, which is a plastic piece that hides and protects the bolts.

Yes, frozen pipes can cause a toilet to stop working correctly. If the pipes are frozen, water cannot flow, which can lead to two main problems. First, the supply line to the toilet tank may be frozen, which prevents the tank from refilling with water after you flush. Second, the drain pipe itself can freeze, blocking water from flushing away. As a temporary solution for a non-refilling tank, you can manually add water, but this is not a long-term fix. To clear a frozen drain pipe, you can try pouring warm water into the toilet bowl or tank and then flushing, as the warm water may help thaw the ice blockage. Ultimately, the best course of action is to unfreeze the affected pipes to restore your toilet to full functionality.

The cost of making a bathroom accessible can be $3,000 to $25,000, but you could spend as much as $50,000 building a brand-new ADA-compliant bathroom. Some bathroom accessibility upgrades to consider include:

  • Installing grab bars: $100–$500

  • Lowering cabinets and vanities: $1,200–$2,500

  • Installing modified doors: $700–$1,500

  • Installing a modified toilet: $400–$1,000

  • Installing an accessible sink and faucet: $100–$1,000

  • Adding a walk-in tub: $1,100–$17,000

  • Converting a bathtub into a walk-in tub: $350–$1,000

  • Installing a wheelchair-accessible shower: $2,000–$7,500

  • Installing a shower ramp: $16–$300

Flushing the toilet only to realize it’s clogged can cause anxiety. To avoid a clogged toilet, use less toilet paper. If you notice that the toilet is flushing and refilling slower than usual, you can use a plunger to clear clogs in the S-trap. If that doesn’t work, call a plumber to check your system and possibly clear the drain lines.
