"We worked with Ali (sales manager) and Tony (project manager), who took the time to design a project that made sense for our property and our budget, made a number of suggestions and recommendations and were never pushy or tried to "sell" us on something. The crew really went above and beyond to provide top quality workmanship and overall we were in very good hands. Highly recommended!"

"Overall, they did a good job. They are friendly and very helpful. we had a little mess to clean up after, but to be fair, I didn't complain -- if i had they would have come back. Preferably they would have come back to check on their own."

"The representative was very well versed and knowledgeable. If I had to go with anyone again it would be this company because they were such a pleasure to work with. The price fit nicely into my budget and I felt secure investing in the product. When it came time to install, not only did the installation crew show up on time but they also finished my large project only within a couple days. I was very happy with the end result-The windows looked like were built with the house! The service they provided was impeccable. Anytime I needed something answered the company was available around the clock."

"Envision Design renovated our two bathrooms beautifully, in a timely fashion, and for a fairly reasonable cost. I had no idea what would look good (didn't get the decorator gene) but Rob helped us pick out cabinetry, tile, countertop, and paint. Their time and cost estimate, done professionally on a spreadsheet, was kept up to date and things pretty much happened as they were scheduled. They were also able to work around our schedule when necessary. Our new bathrooms look great and we are very pleased. Thanks, Envision Design!"

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

The proper way to install a window well is to measure the window, dig a hole deeper and wider than the window, place a drainage tube and cap, anchor the well to the foundation, caulk the seam, and backfill the hole. The job requires tools such as a hammer drill and auger and some heavy digging. Proper placement and window well installation are critical to preventing water from leaking into the window.

Expect excavation below grade, creating a well for access, weatherproofing, and thorough inspections during setup.

Egress windows are typically required for basements with habitable space or living quarters. Not all basements or lower levels require egress windows. However, egress windows are required in homes with living spaces such as bedrooms and living rooms in a basement. The International Residential Code and International Building Code require sleeping rooms to have a specific size egress window. Check your local building codes to confirm the requirements in your area.

There are a range of egress window types available, including:

  • Single-hung: $100–$400

  • Double-hung: $250–$500

  • Horizontal/sliding: $150–$800

  • Casement: $200–$500

  • In-swing: $350–$700

When choosing a type of egress window, consider how you’d like to open it. For example, double-hung egress windows open from top to bottom and let plenty of fresh air in, whereas sliding windows slide open for easy access.

If improperly installed, an egress window can compromise your foundation’s structural integrity, so it’s important to work with a pro to ensure your foundation remains in good shape. Any money you may save on a DIY egress window installation may cost you in the long run if your foundation is damaged in the process.
