Small jobs welcome

"Last winter, my husband and I were fortunate enough to close on a house. However, the garage was sorely in need of interior cleaning, repair, and paint. We were both “Gung Ho” about doing it ourselves when I tripped and fractured my wrist. At that point, the movers were due to arrive in 5 days with two truckloads of home furnishings. Josh Dowell (Dowell’s Painting) responded to my desperate call by promptly sending out an associate to start cleaning and taping followed up working over the weekend to personally accommodate our needs. The results were thorough and well executed. In the process, we learned to appreciate Josh’s words of wisdom that the painting of a well-used garage interior is a much more formidable project than most lay people assume it to be. We’re happy to provide testament to his extensive experience and professionalism and will gladly give him another call for the next painting project."

"I had a wonderful experience with my painter. He was friendly, kind, affordable, and worked quickly without sacrificing quality. He clearly took pride in doing a job well done and made sure all prep work and cleanup were included, which I really appreciated. The space looks great, and I would absolutely recommend him and use him again in the future."

"Both Timothy and Mike did an excellent job. My house looks nice and clean with the power wash and the fence looks great with the painting. I would hire them again and recommend them."

"I cannot say enough about Jesse and his team. They were amazing and did excellent work. I had Jesse paint the interior of my home and the attention to detail was outstanding. The home looks amazing. His professionalism, prompt communication, expertise, and work ethic is amazing. He absolutely cares that you are 100% satisfied before he finishes and takes pride in his work, I truly like that every day he discussed where they were at and the plan for the next day and they followed through and showed up as scheduled. There was never any guess work of the project status and kept me informed all day. The whole experience was top notch and I highly recommend Jesse and his team. We will be having his team come back to paint the exterior of our home soon."

"Joshua is great! I purchased the toilets at Home Depot and arranged for Joshua to pick them up. Well HD Lancaster location only had two of the HE toilets that I wanted, so the 3rd toilet was picked up in the HD Palmdale store. Joshua did all this with pleasure. He was on time, work was completed superbly and cleanup was on point. I will always call on Joshua for my Handyman needs..."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

It's okay to walk on a newly painted deck after about four to six hours as long as the weather has been dry. Be sure to wait at least 24 hours before you place any outdoor furniture or grills on a freshly painted deck, though.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

The best exterior paint for the job of painting your front porch depends on the material you’ll be painting. Acrylic paint is often recommended for a wooden porch as it’s durable and easy to apply. If your porch is made of concrete, you’ll need to find a formula suited to that material.

Limewash and whitewash do not harm surfaces if you apply them correctly. Use on non-suitable surfaces can cause issues. For instance, applying limewash or whitewash to surfaces with existing sealants or incompatible materials may lead to poor adhesion or flaking. Also, harsh cleaning agents on limewashed or whitewashed surfaces can damage the finish. Proper preparation, application, and maintenance ensure that limewash and whitewash do not harm surfaces.

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.
