"My experience with ALR Painting was excellent. Alex was on time everyday and took the utmost care in painting the exterior of my house and my workshop. My house looks amazing. Alex even helped me with my color choices which alleviated a lot of the stress of picking the correct colors. I would highly recommend him to all my friends and family. A++"

"Rick Davis was very personable.  He was prompt returning any phone calls or addressing any color or paint concerns.  He provided our bid for the exterior painting in July before our siding was completed so we planned on scheduling after the siding was completed which was the end of August.  We requested a bid to stain our newly installed back fence the first day his crew came out for the exterior preparation and accepted his proposal.  His crew did a great job preparing the exterior for paint and protecting our new landscaping and concrete.  They completed the entire house in one day and returned the next for minor touch up and to stain the fence.  Rick was very thorough in communication throughout the whole process and our house looks awesome.

"Our house had not been painted in decades and we were selling it and obviously want it to look nice. Frank and his crew were great, they did everything on time, on schedule and with very little disruption. The house looked fantastic and sold within days, I am sure not in small part to their great work. We were very impressed with their professionalism, care with everything, and willingness to explain what was going on. There is no doubt they take pride in their work. We would hire them again and in fact will be for the house we bought. Highly recommend."

"They worked hard removing all the finish and applying the first coat of stain and sealant. They have come back two more time to sand and reveal to ensure a smooth finish as requested. They are always on time. I would reuse their service Nice people

"JD painting came to my house and gave a great knowledgeable quote for my home and I did not hesitate to say no based on his trivial review of his experience from past customers he's painted homes for. When Javier and his crew were ready to paint my home he double and triple checked his crews work before deciding to finish the work. I would recommend JD painting for any painting needs either exterior or interior for home painting projects. Thanks So much JD you guys made my day."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is important to wash your deck before painting to ensure the paint applies well and adheres properly. While you don't have to use a pressure washer, it is one of the most efficient cleaning methods. Pressure washing can quickly remove dirt, wood fibers, and flaked paint, getting deeper into the wood than manual scrubbing. You can also clean the deck with a stiff broom and a cleaning solution. Regardless of the method, a clean surface is essential for good paint adhesion. Make sure the deck is completely dry before applying any paint.

The plastic in composite decking boards protects them enough that you do not need to paint them to prevent warping. In fact, painting composite decking voids the warranty of some manufacturers. Painting can also increase maintenance on the deck, as you must paint regularly to keep it looking its best.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.
