"Great. Arrived on time, good communication on line before and after. Left the fireplace area clean and explained what would be done before doing it. Inspected and repaired the top of the Chimney, per our request. I will hire this company again."

"It's a pretty decent system, I think. They send you the pieces and you install them yourself, which is pretty easy. The only real problem I have is that one sensor is too far away from the panel...or there's some interference, and they haven't been able to fix that. It's an interior door, so it's not the end of the world, just a little annoying. Their customer service is pretty good though. Nice, smart customer service people on the other end, very polite and helpful."

"They came to my house on a Sunday. After inspecting the chimney they offered to do the cleaning and repair for a fair price. The work was done quickly and no mess. Highly recommend their service."

"He was able to order all the parts, bring them over and install an entire fireplace safely and securely… We have been very warm this winter and for many years we will be warm. He does our cleaning and inspections… His price is affordable and he’s amazing. He checked in with us all throughout the year to make sure that we are dialed in with our wood-burning stove… In the past, when we had a gas stove, he made sure that our pilot was lit when we needed it and helped us in all areas… He is the best"

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

Metal roofs are dangerous to walk on, even for professionals. Metal shake does offer some texture to help with grip, but metal itself is extremely slippery, especially at a medium to steep pitch, so call in a pro rather than getting up on the roof yourself. They’ll have the necessary safety equipment and experience to avoid injury.

To cap off a chimney flue, start by measuring its width, length, and diameter, if it’s circular. Purchase a cap that fits the flue, and decide whether you want a temporary or permanent model. Then, slide or insert the cap onto the flue and secure it with a screwdriver. Be sure to avoid over-tightening the screws to prevent chimney damage.

Many insurance policies will not cover a roof with two layers of shingles. An additional layer of shingles increases the risk of various kinds of damage, and insurers typically won’t pay claims on a roof with an overlay. Adding a layer of shingles may even jeopardize your insurance coverage entirely, so check your policy to ensure you stay within coverage guidelines.

Some homes, like those with flat roofs, may not have eaves at all. Some contemporary-style homes also lack eaves, although many may have abbreviated eaves to divert water and protect the walls and foundation. Homes without eaves often have specific types of gutters affixed directly to the edge of the roof to provide adequate drainage.

Insurance might cover a 30-year-old roof, but it’s fairly rare. Most companies don’t offer coverage for roofs older than 20 years, but certain robust plans will handle it. However, even if the plan offers coverage for an aged roof, it could be diminished. Many plans only cover the original cost or the actual cash value (ACV) of the roof once enough time has passed. ACV is based on the roof's age and condition at the time of repairs.
