"Simmons Cabinet did exactly what they proposed for us. Our home has a lot of cabinets and Simmons kept us informed of the status throughout the process. Our kitchen, washer/dryer room, office, master bathroom, guest bathroom and linen cabinets all now look fabulous. The craftsmanship was excellent. We have already recommended them to a neighbor."

"Absolutely thrilled with our garage remodel. We added storage, insulation, and epoxy floors—it now looks like a showroom! The team worked efficiently and kept us informed at every stage. It feels like we gained an entirely new room in our home!"

"After they redid our counter tops and island, we had them paint out cabinets and build shelves up to the ceiling. The communication was on point this time and the results speak for themselves. Would definitely recommend them to anyone for any home project."

"JV Cabinets was wonderful with our galley kitchen reface and rebuild. We had subway tile and quartz installed. The whole team: Jorge, Jaime Jr. and Sr.; Robert, David and Miguel were always professional and assisted us with design questions. We were able to hide our washer dryer in a cabinet and also get a broom closet! The whole project took only 30 days despite some hiccups with scheduling beyond their control. I would definitely recommend them."

"Splendidly! Larry is a consummate professional with decades of experience. He designed our kitchen upgrade and the upper and lower bar cabinets. He then installed all of the cabinets and drawers. The end result was that we have a brand new kitchen that is absolutely beautiful. The workmanship is second to none. We are now in the process of remodeling and expanding our master bath and consider ourselves lucky to have Larry working on the project with us. I highly recommend using Larry for your cabinet needs."

Small jobs welcome

"Cunningham Construction (Paul and Vicki) helped us navigate a fairly complex remodel where we moved a laundry room to our garage and replaced the laundry with a shower creating an downstairs guest space with it's own bath and shower. Paul and Vicki adeptly managed the permitting process across our county and township. Paul's attention to detail showed through in the planning and execution. The project involved managing electrical, plumbing, painting and custom shower installation teams, drawing up architectural plans for the home, and leveraging a deep cross functional set of skills from framing, drywall, texturing, tile, door framing, procurement of materials and disposal. Their professional and detailed approach was further enhanced by their down-to-earth collaboration, explanation and high quality execution. Our project took time to get right, and the accounting for materials, labor and schedule were detailed and accurate. I would be so happy to work with them on future projects!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Jefferson and crew were outstanding. Will was caring, knowledgeable, detailed. Jefferson was fast efficient, going beyond the norm. Their professionalism is exceeded only by their attitude and enthusiasm taking great pride in their work. Punctual, finished early, took on extra projects to complete an already eye popping display of craftsmanship. Great job guys, you helped get my home ready for sale. Must have been the lunch I bought. All kidding aside, you made my day. They transformed the Kitchen, Laundry room, Living room, Hallway, Bathroom, Bedroom and closets like they were brand new. Johnny Rivers Pittsburg, Ca. 94565"

Closets questions, answered by experts

To prevent sagging, consider both the material and the span of the shelf. Using sturdy materials such as plywood or solid wood can provide better support than particleboard. Additionally, limiting the shelf span to 36 inches or less can reduce the risk of sagging. For longer shelves, incorporating center supports or brackets can offer additional reinforcement.

Fortunately, there are no hard and fast rules or regulations regarding the height of closet shelving. However, the typical height for a single closet shelf with a hanging bar is 70 inches from the floor. For a double-hanging system, use 84 to 85 inches from the floor for the top one and 42 inches for the lower.

The differences between a built-in closet and a walk-in aren’t that different from a built-in wardrobe and a walk-in closet. It’s fairly simple—a walk-in closet is a closet you can physically enter, stand in, and walk around in. A built-in (whether wardrobe or closet) is more akin to covered shelves installed into a recess in the wall. Another big difference is walk-in closets almost always have traditional full-size doors, while built-ins either have no doors or use sliding doors.

Whether it’s less expensive to build or buy a closet depends on both the type of closet and whether or not you’d be constructing it yourself. The cost of custom closets built by a pro ranges from $1,300 to $3,800, but you may be able to DIY it for as little as $400. By contrast, prefabricated options go as low as $200 and up to $3,000, so it’s almost always less expensive to go this route.

When you are securing your DIY home office built-ins to the wall, you should start by locating the wall studs. You'll then want to use long screws to attach the cabinets, shelves, and bookcases directly to the wall studs. Your built-ins will be far too heavy to attach to the drywall alone by using anchors.
