The easiest way to handle extra-wet cement is to pour it, let it harden, and then recycle it using one of the methods above. You can also crush it down and sell it for base materials, although this can be pretty time-consuming. Resurfaced concrete is only as good as the concrete underneath the new overlay material. If the concrete is peeling or cracked, the peeling and cracks are likely to show through the new surface.

Stamped concrete overlays last about 25 years when properly installed and cared for. Installing an overlay on top of structurally sound concrete helps ensure it reaches its full lifespan. A local stamped concrete pro should finish and seal the concrete upon installation, and you should reseal the overlay every three to five years. Stamped concrete overlays are durable, long-lasting, and a beautiful way to refresh a space.

You can refresh the look of old concrete steps by investing in concrete resurfacing, which can serve to patch crumbling or broken sections of concrete. You can also paint or stain it if there isn’t any surface damage to address and you’re just dealing with discoloration. For a quick and easy solution, you can also cover up any unsightly spots with potted plants, garden statues, lanterns, and other decorative items. Even if they don’t completely disguise the problem areas, they’ll still spruce up the overall look.
