"P.M. Landscaping is outstanding! We highly recommend them for installation without reservation! We hired P.M. Landscaping to re-grade our backyard drainage, then install an extensive area of pavers, and finally add drip irrigation for our new landscaping. We ended up installing boulder retaining-walls to secure the steep hills in our back yard which slope toward our house. The whole project took about 4.5 weeks of full-time, multi-laborer work. P.M. Landscaping was attentive to detail and asked for input where there were choices to be made. At the end of each day they cleaned up and put their tools aside in one area. We waited several months for them to be able to do our job. The wait was longer than usual due to the COVID19 pandemic slowing paver manufacturing. We are very glad we could wait to get the best!"

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

You should use mulch because it protects garden soil in a few key ways. This extra layer between the ground and the elements protects against erosion, helps your soil maintain moisture, regulates changes in temperature, adds nutrients as it decomposes, and keeps weeds at bay.

The best time to lay mulch depends on the type of mulch and the reason for installing it:

  • Summer: Adding extra mulch helps soil retain moisture and keeps weeds at bay, allowing plants to thrive.

  • Fall: Adding mulch helps control weeds and keeps soil and roots warm during the cooler months. Aim to add a layer of mulch 2 to 4 inches deep.

  • Winter: Mulch around perennial plants to help keep them insulated.

  • Spring: Wait until the ground has thawed. Depending on the thickness, add between 1 and 4 inches of mulch to provide freeze and rain protection and enrich the soil.

Yes, grounds count when calculating box fill. A single volume allowance is made when up to four equipment grounding conductors or equipment bonding jumpers enter the box. It’s important to account for all wires and fittings when calculating box fill. Beyond the first four, each additional grounding conductor should be counted as ¼ volume.

Yes, pea gravel is good for driveways as long as your driveway isn’t built on a hill or any type of slope where it can slide. It’ll settle on a flat surface and create a suitable driveway over time, though some spreading initially will take place. If you're wondering how to make a gravel driveway in a high-rainfall area, using pea gravel could help you to cut down on costs needed for extra drainage solutions.

There are a few factors to consider when choosing the right size river rock for a landscaping project. First, think about how you’ll use the rocks. For example, if you’re installing them as part of a water feature, medium-sized stones (ranging between 2 and 5 inches) often work best. Smaller rocks (from 1 and 3 inches) are better for walkways and pathways, while a mix of medium and large stones (between 3 and 8 inches) is ideal for garden beds.
