"Handyman Mike is easy to communicate with and very thorough. He insists on doing quality work and is very thoughtful. We had him make some modifications for my wheelchair bound husband. He was most thoughtful and his partner Sean was very skilled and kind as well."

"Robert, does the mowing every two weeks or so for our front and large backyard. He is very professional and leaves the place looking like it was being prepared for a special on HGTV. It does come at a price though. He is at least 20-30% higher than most others I have talked to."

Lawns questions, answered by experts

There are several ways to dispose of excess sod, including building a compost pile, taking it to a green waste disposal facility, donating the sod, or reusing it in another part of your yard. It’s a good idea to check with your local municipality to see how to get rid of yard waste, as some areas have local regulations on what can go in the green waste bin. For example, your recycling services may reject too much soil added to green waste.

In general, you can prune up to one third of the height of most shrubs without damaging them. There are a few exceptions to this rule: Pine shrubs, for example, can’t be trimmed below the point of new growth without damaging them.

Raking is one way to remove moss from your lawn. However, if you rake live moss, it can spread and exacerbate the problem. Instead, use a moss killer, then wait a couple of weeks before raking to ensure the moss is dead and can’t spread to other areas of your lawn.

You cannot put anything you want into a rented dumpster, as there are significant restrictions on certain items.

Generally allowed items include:

  • Household Junk: Furniture, old linens, carpets, toys, small appliances, and excess trash.

  • Construction & Yard Debris: Wood, yard debris, roofing materials, old finishes, and other construction waste.

Commonly prohibited items include:

  • Hazardous Materials: Toxic waste, medical waste, dangerous chemicals, items with lead paint, and asbestos.

  • Flammables: Gasoline, oil, and fuel.

  • Specific Banned Items: Paint cans, electronics, batteries, tires, refrigerators, and hot water tanks.

Because rules can vary, you should always check with your specific dumpster rental company for their guidelines if you are unsure about an item.

A pre-emergent herbicide is the most effective way to avoid stickers growing in your yard. However, if some manage to make it through, a post-emergent herbicide is the most effective way to kill them. However, environmental concerns exist when using chemicals on a lawn. Try vinegar or baking soda applications to kill sticker plants for a more natural yet still effective method.
