Emergency services offered

"I hired Hewson landscape to do difficult and extensive brush and blackberry vine removal on a steep slope next to my house.. He also removed a thicket of sprouts from several stumps.. Torin had the equipment and knowledge to do the job and went at the task with enthusiasm. Even after unexpectedly getting swarmed and stung by hornets (from a nest hidden in the brush) he came back and finished the job (once i sprayed the nest). Torin is friendly, responsible and a hard worker who I would highly recommend."

Lawns questions, answered by experts

There are several ways to decompose yard waste quickly. The first step is to move all debris into a compost bin or pile. From there, microorganisms, bacteria, and insects will break down the yard waste into compost. To speed things up, shred the waste into smaller pieces, add live worms to the pile, or introduce nitrogen-rich compost accelerators like grass clippings, coffee grounds, and manure. Turn the compost over every few days. This process, called aerating, allows oxygen to get in and accelerate decomposition.

Several leaf-removal tools are available to make this annual process easier, including a leaf grabber, leaf tarps, leaf blowers, and leak vacuums. Each piece of equipment works differently, but they all achieve the same goal of picking up leaves as quickly and easily as possible.

In most cases, it’s better to remove rocks before adding mulch. Layering the two will restrict drainage and plant health, and can create an unpleasant texture underfoot.

The best way to clean an overgrown yard is to create a multi-stage game plan, from clearing out the debris to cleaning up the edges around hardscaping and landscape curbing. Get rid of yard debris like worn furniture and broken tools first, then start trimming and raking what’s left. Mow the grass, trim the hedges, and rake leaves away. Once that’s complete, move on to more detailed work, like pulling weeds and replanting gardens.

Using a leaf blower is often the easiest way to pick up leaves. It quickly and efficiently gathers leaves into manageable piles, requiring less physical effort than manual raking. Additionally, you can choose to bag the collected leaves or use a mulching mower to break them down into natural mulch, simplifying the cleanup process further.
