"I originally hired Carpet Police to clean the carpets in my house. They were the first to respond when I got on Angie's List. Somehow, Carpet Police got usurped by another company called Arizona Island. Arizona Island did a terrible job and I called Carpet Police, again, to please come and repair the bad carpet cleaning that was done. Carpet Police did as good a job as I could possible expect to fix what went wrong. Alfonso was efficient, friendly, wore his mask when he was inside and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again."

"Bryan and Bryan showed up early, ready to work. They took no time in the biggest rooms. Pulling the carpet up, putting it back and stretching the carpet to sit straight/right. Then they would clean the carpet each time they got a room done. Great father/son team. I would recommend this company for any of your home needs."

Carpet Cleaning questions, answered by experts

A professional cleaning service generally takes a few hours, typically between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the property's size and the severity of any stains. Keep in mind that wet cleaning methods will require additional drying time.

If your upholstery has a funky odor or you want to make your couch smell fresh, sprinkle some baking soda on the piece for 30 minutes up to an hour and then use the vacuum to remove the baking soda. If it’s still smelling funky, you may need to hire a professional cleaning service for a deeper clean.

There aren’t health dangers to sleeping in a room where the carpet was just cleaned. In some cases, strong-scented detergents may trigger allergies in sensitive people, but otherwise there’s not much to worry about.

A greater concern is walking across damp carpet, which is undesirable. To air out the room and help the carpet dry, it’s a good idea to stay off the floors for about 24 hours if possible. If you’re cleaning carpets in the bedroom, you may want to make alternative sleeping plans.

Vinegar and baking soda can be effective for removing old carpet stains, although success may depend on the type of stain. There are two common methods for this process.

One method involves combining the ingredients directly on the stain to create a chemical reaction. First, pour a generous layer of dry baking soda over the stain. In a spray bottle, mix distilled white vinegar with 1 cup of warm water and a few drops of liquid dish soap, then spray this solution thoroughly over the baking soda. The mixture will foam as the acidic vinegar reacts with the basic baking soda, which helps loosen and lift the stain. Let this sit for a few hours until it dries, then wipe or vacuum up the residue and blot the area with a clean, dry towel. You can repeat the process if the stain persists.

An alternative method suggests using the ingredients separately. Start by sprinkling baking soda on the stain and letting it sit for 15 to 30 minutes before vacuuming it up. Next, blot the remaining stain with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water, and then blot the area dry with a clean cloth.

The best cleaner to remove soot depends on the surface material and the type of fire, but consider dish soaps or degreasers, baking soda, rubbing alcohol, and hydrogen. Low-oxygen fires often leave behind greasy soot, which is best removed with dish soaps or degreasers. Baking soda can be useful for absorbing soot deposits from carpets, followed by rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to clean the set-in stains.
