"I hired Wash Away to clean our windows, screens, and tracks. Ruby and her helper (I forgot to get her name!) did an awesome job! We just moved into our home and everything was so dirty! We can now see out of our windows and screens! My husband asked me yesterday if I had left the sliding door open because it is so clean he thought it was open. In fact, I have hired them to come back next month to clean my blinds, ceiling fans and globes. Not only do they do a great job, their prices are very reasonable! I recommend calling them for your window cleaning needs!"

Window Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You should avoid using abrasive materials and harsh chemicals when cleaning windows. Abrasive tools like scrubbing pads, rough cloths, or steel wool can permanently scratch and damage the glass. Harsh chemical cleaners containing alcohol or ammonia can damage window treatments, frame materials, and special features like tinting. It is also best to use distilled or filtered water instead of hard water, which can leave spots or streaks. For best results, use a clean microfiber cloth to wash the glass and old black and white newspapers to dry it without leaving streaks.

Whether you’re a renter or a buyer, you should clean a house when moving out. For renters, it’s usually written in the lease that a house must be cleaned before it’s vacated. If you’re unsure how thoroughly to clean the place, check with the landlord beforehand; otherwise, you may not receive your deposit back. When selling a house, a contractual agreement is often made with the realtor that the house is swept and that all personal belongings are removed before the previous owners move out.

Egress windows require regular maintenance to ensure they function correctly. This includes cleaning the glass, inspecting the frame and well for debris, and making sure the cover or well drains properly. It is also important to check that the window sills and wells are watertight and to inspect and repair any damage to the window frame or seals to prevent leaks and maintain functionality.

Yes, professional window cleaners will clean the surface of the glass on both the inside and the outside. They will usually clean the tracks for your windows, check and clean the weatherstripping, and even disassemble parts of your window, if necessary, to clean and lubricate interior components and moving parts.

The best way to clean outside windows is by using a garden hose. Start by spraying the windows with a high-pressure stream to clear off loose dirt and grime. Then use a mixture of hot water and dish soap and scrub the windows with a sponge. Rinse off the soapy water with the hose. Before you finish up, spray the windows with a solution of vinegar and water and wipe them down with a microfiber cloth.
