"We had an overall outstanding experience with Creative Stone Countertops! Justin recommended several countertops for us to choose from within our budget. He gave us an estimated timeframe of 3 weeks to install in our new construction and had them in within that timeframe. They spent an entire weekend installing, were very diligent, and kept our property clean during and afterwards. The finished product is awesome! I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for new countertops."

"Chuck and his crew did a fantastic job. He answered our million questions and his responsiveness is a big reason we went with him over another contractor. He was able to steer us to a vendor that could get our specific tile when we were unable to find it ourselves and helped us with the calculations on how much to purchase and he matched it perfectly with the flooring outside the room he did. The wife and i couldn’t be happier with how it turned out and will be calling Chuck to do our backsplash at a later date. He and his crew were very friendly and professional and ensured that any mess they made was cleaned up promptly."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Yes, onyx countertops can scratch easily—especially if they’re not adequately sealed. But with the proper maintenance (which includes re-sealing the countertops to protect them from damage), you can prevent your onyx countertops from scratching and repair any damage quickly to prevent it from worsening.

Budget-friendly alternatives to granite include quartz, laminate, or solid surface materials. Quartz naturally mimics the look of granite, or homeowners can choose a laminate designed to resemble the natural stone for a much lower cost.

If you have light renovation experience, you should be able to build your own countertop made from wood or laminate. These tend to be the most DIY-friendly materials, but you’ll need to be comfortable using a circular saw and taking precise measurements. When it comes to installation, leave anything that involves plumbing, electricity, or gas lines to the pros.

No, you don't have to apply polyurethane to butcher block countertops. Polyurethane sealant is a long-lasting finish for a butcher block counter, but its application also requires thoroughly sanding the surface multiple times. Other materials, such as mineral oil, require less work but must be applied more frequently.

Solid surface countertops are fairly resilient. You can use soapy water or ammonia-based cleaners. You can also occasionally use diluted bleach (around 5 tablespoons per gallon of water) for sanitization. Avoid window cleaners because they leave a waxy film that can dull the countertop’s surface. Solid surface material is nonporous, so there’s no need for sealing.
