Yes, you can paint most wall panels. In fact, many wall panels come unfinished, meaning you can stain or paint them in any color you choose. Afterward, you can simply prime and redo your walls with interior paint, and no one will know the difference.

If you’re debating whether to paint the walls or ceiling first, let us settle it for you. Painting the ceiling first is key—that way, you won’t have to worry about paint drips. Always start at the top of the room and work your way down for best results.

It’s best to avoid sleeping in a freshly painted room for 24 to 72 hours, depending on ventilation and the level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the paint. If you’re using a low- to no-VOC paint in a room with good ventilation, it’s generally safe to sleep in the room once the paint is dry. For other kinds of paint, give the VOCs a few days to dissipate before sleeping in the room.
