"Well, the first appointment was made for a Friday afternoon and we took off from work to be at the house to wait for them.  By 4pm there was no word so I called only to find they had an emergency and were not coming.  She said she called everyone the night before, but NOT ME.
The woman and I had talked and I was told the charge for going into an attic was an extra $75. I agreed as I had read this in previous reviews also.  IT WAS NOT STATED IN THE AD!!!  The ad said extra charge for materials, ok ,and as I said I agreed to the 75 ON THE PHONE WITH THE WIFE, NOT 125.
They arrived at the house for the second appt and told my husband it was $125 to go in the attic now!?!  What?
Husband called me and I informed the lady that we had discussed this and I was told by her 75 extra, not 125, well long story short...the coupon from Angies List cost $99 for 2 hours of electrical labor. It said materials extra.  We had to write a check for another $150.
I value any working person's time and skills, but I feel like we were "taken". Don't tell me one price then as soon as you arrive increase it. We paid it, the people did quality work,  but I would not do business with them again.

"This company is obviously nationwide and hires local contractors.  I trusted Agies List that all contractors are licensed, bonded and have background checks.  This person was a handyman and not qualified to wall mount, conceal wires, add electrical outlet.  He  spend five hours in my home, for a job that should have taken two hours and left the area in a disaster.  The TV was hung close to the ceiling, the wires were hanging down from the TV, and the receiver was sitting on top of a plaster box because the cord was too short.  He was obviously not qualified to install TV wall mounts.  I have photos.    As soon as he left, I called Best Buy Geek Squad.  They were able to come out the next day and mount the TV professionally.  I have used the geek squad in Virginia and they are highly qualified.  They charge more than this nationwide company but you get what you pay for.  I called Angies List the day after the disaster and said i did not want to rate this company but I wanted to talk to a manager. No one called me to apologize. I have cancelled my membership.  Do not use this company unless you can be assured that the local contractor is qualified and is licensed.  You should never let anyone into your home that has not had background checks.

"I was contacted by a Tech at the assigned time and had to run to the store for a cable I needed. When I called back, I had a different Tech, but he was able to continue right where I had left off. There was no need to explain anything again. Awesome."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

When shopping for a multimeter to handle this job, make sure you purchase one that is able to test for capacitance. While most multimeters offer this function, some do not. You shouldn’t have to spend a lot of money to find the right multimeter. There are models that can perform this test that cost as little as $10.

The copper wire used in knob and tube wiring systems can last up to 100 years. However, it’s considered a dangerous and outdated wiring method because the cloth, fabric, or rubber insulation sheathing can become brittle and fall apart. Knob and tube wiring systems should be inspected if you’re considering buying a home with this type of wiring, or if you have problems with frequently tripping breakers, a sign that you may need to replace them.

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.

The standard voltage for United States power outlets isn’t shared around the world, and neither is the shape of the power connector. This is why you need travel adapters when spending time abroad. Where the United States typically uses 110/120V outlets, outlets in Europe typically use 220/240V. Power outlets can vary in other ways around the world, too. Not everyone uses the 60Hz frequency, for example, and not everyone even uses AC power in outlets. Always do your research when traveling to see what you need.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.
