"Wes Sims and his crew are the best. They were fast and did a great job removing my downed tree including haul off and clean up. I will use them again for all my wood and hauling jobs. Their cost were very competitive. Doyle Thresher Fort Smith, Ar."

"I cannot say enough wonderful things about this business! They did such an amazing job on a really tough yard project. We had multiple overgrown flowerbeds, ivy, weeds and branches growing all over fences, just a real mess in the front and back yard. They came in on a Saturday and gave us a free estimate, we were happy with the price they offered and thought it was very fair and affordable. They came in on Tuesday and Wednesday and did a PHENOMENAL job and really went above and beyond to make sure that we were pleased with the job. Very professional, knowledgeable and friendly and stellar results. Highly recommend!"

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

If you are xeriscaping a lawn from scratch, your best bet for preparing the lawn is to work with a xeriscaping specialist in your area. The most common first step to making the transformation, however, will be to remove the turfgrass from your lawn. The subsequent steps will often include amending the soil to support new plants and installing low-drip or drip irrigation systems.

Yes, weeds can still grow in decomposed granite. If properly compacted, it can act as a good weed suppressant, meaning you’ll only pull weeds occasionally. But no ground cover is completely weed-proof. To further prevent weeds, you can try spraying your decomposed granite with distilled white vinegar.

Pea gravel consists of many small, rounded stones that, unsurprisingly, kind of resemble peas. They range in size from 1/8 to 3/8 of an inch. Higher-end products might be a little more uniform and have fewer jagged rocks in the mix.

Mulching any time of year can attract termites, so there’s no added risk in the fall. The important thing to remember is that termites are attracted to rotting wood, so you need to lay a thin enough layer that won’t trap too much moisture and lead to rotting. A layer between 1 and 4 inches thick should provide all the benefits you’re looking for without attracting termites.

Mulching any time of year can be beneficial, so you can choose based on your preference. Most homeowners avoid the winter and summer because of the uncomfortable temperatures, so spring and fall are often best. Try not to mulch right before heavy rainfall or a big storm is expected, as wind and runoff can move newly laid mulch around and make more work for you.
