"Enter request on Home Adviser on a Sunday morning not expecting the repair to be made that day. They called quickly came out in about an hour and fixed my home AC. I was worried it would be an expensive repair but they found the issue quickly and it ended up costing right at $200 ($135 for the part and the rest for the service call out and repair). Couple of good knowledgeable guys. Happy it wasn t a more expensive repair."

"I hired them to take care of cleaning and sanitizing my parents heating and cooling air ducts in their home. My dad, who is very hard to impress, was telling me their service was very professional and the two persons from Hester's advised him what was going on while they were cleaning. We will definitely use them again and also refer them to other persons needing the same service."

"My blower motor went out on my A/C unit, I called Mason Heating and Air. They advised me that the blower motor would cost me just over $1100.00 and total price of installation would be almost $1600.00. I then called Performance Pro's and they came out the same day with the blower motor in hand and fixed my issue and total cost was $900.00. I would absolutely use Performance Pro's again, they saved me $600.00 and they were super fast on getting my A/C unit up and running again."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If you’re looking for a portable, budget-friendly cooling solution that doesn’t require any venting or installation, a ventless AC system is a good option. Similarly, this is a great choice if you’re renting an apartment or home and aren’t allowed to make large, structural changes like installing comprehensive HVAC, or you’re in a shared space and only need to cool your own room.

You may be able to clean mold from your air conditioner in some cases. If the mold growth only takes up a small area, you can use either vinegar or bleach mixed with water to remove it. Larger areas of mold should be left to the professionals, though. It's also a good idea to leave mold removal to the pros if you are sensitive to mold or have asthma.

Yes, you should turn off your AC if it’s leaking. Turning off the system prevents more condensation from leaking and reduces strain on the unit if a damaged internal component or lack of refrigerant is the cause. While this may temporarily stop the leak, water can continue to drip from a thawing coil even after the system is off. As soon as you notice a leak, turn off the unit and investigate the source or call a professional for an inspection.

You need to know the square footage of your home first. Multiply that number by 20, which will get you the BTUs (British Thermal Units) needed to cool your home efficiently. Homes up to 1,000 square feet usually need a 1.5-ton unit; homes 1,000 to 1,200 square feet usually need a 1.75-ton unit, and homes 1,200 to 1,400 square feet usually need a 1.9-ton unit. Talk to a local pro for more specific advice on your home.

There are several common types of HVAC systems that you may have, including split systems, hybrid HVAC, duct-free systems, packaged heating and air, geothermal heating, or even portable units for heating or cooling. If you aren’t sure which type is in your home or are looking to install something different, you should consult an HVAC pro to determine which option is right for your heating and cooling needs.
