The water leak in the supply line at the meter required a new washer, but that wasn't all of the leak. After a leak-finder outfit did its work ($350 for a the service call and a half-hour's work), the next leak was also in the supply line, just outside the foundation. Paradise dug up the line, replaced the frozen supply shutoff valve (which was an additional necessity I asked him to do), ran a new line underground some 20 ft, and installed a standing-up freeze-proof hose spigot. Paradise did all of the digging and filling, supplied all the materials, and completed the repair/installation satisfactorily. Total cost of the leak repairs in two sessions was $545, which I consider reasonable. Very happy with Paradise Plumbing. The window company came out one time and said he broke his windows and would have to come back. WE ARE STILL WAITING!!!!! Our salesman was Jeff Stone (Project Specialist -Exterior). When three weeks went by I called and was told that it takes four to five weeks for windows to be delivered. The salesman came by to say he was sorry for the misunderstanding and arranged for me to get grid added to two windows at no additional charge. The owner of the company told me that I would have my windows installed the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, I was also told by my salesman that I would have their best installer named John, who would have the windows done in two days and do all the clean up. On Tuesday two installers arrived and neither one of them was John. They arrived without all the tools they needed so they rented one from my husband and had to go out and rent the rest. They did not arrive until 4:30 p.m. and worked until 6:30. They came back the next morning and worked on the windows and took long breaks and were on the phone a lot. They didn't finish the job and had to come back on the Friday after Thanksgiving. They didn't have a shop vac or broom to clean up their mess so I had to give them a broom to clean up and then I vacuumed after that. They also left hand prints on all 19 windows that I had to go around and clean. I saved a little bit of money by going with them but would go with Window World if I had it to do over again. In most cases, appliance warranties do not transfer to new owners. However, some exceptions apply. To check the status of your appliance warranty and whether you can transfer it when you move, review the terms and conditions of your warranties or consult your home warranty service. When purchasing a new appliance or one from a previous owner, be sure to pay attention to its warranty status, including the type of coverage and any exclusions.
Typically, most appliances last anywhere from 10 to 15 years, depending on the appliance, brand, and amount of use. Keeping a regular maintenance schedule, including cleaning and tune-ups, also helps appliances last longer. Dryers, gas stoves, and refrigerators tend to last the longest, averaging about 13 to 15 years. Microwaves and dishwashers tend to last about 10 years on average.
The average cost to repair an appliance depends on the appliance, make, model, the part that needs repair, and how long it takes to replace or repair a part. The following are the average repair costs for the most common appliances:
Refrigerator: $200–$300
Freezer: $90–$500
Oven, cooktop, range: $100–$500
Microwave: $50–$400
Dishwasher: $160–$300
Garbage disposal: $70–$250
Washing machine: $50–$450
Dryer: $100–$400
Appliance repair contractors may charge $40 to $120 per hour for labor, and most also provide the replacement parts necessary at an additional cost. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays and emergency fees may apply if you need your appliance fixed immediately.
The cost of home appliances ranges from $350 to $8,000 or more, depending on the brand, type of appliance, and features. Additional cost factors include any hookups that need to be installed, such as gas, plumbing, or electrical. Keep in mind that major appliances, such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, and water heaters, will cost more than minor appliances, such as microwaves, due to the size, complexity, and essential nature of the item.
